A friend of mine will be selling one of the above pistols. He bought it new in the late 80's. It's in excellent shape with the original box, paperwork, etc. He asked me to find out what a fair price would be when he decides to post it for sale. Thanks for any input. c good

It is the factory finish. Thanks for the info.

an excellent condition w german P226 with original box and papers could bring in $650.00+. but the factory w german electroless nickel P226 is not commonly seen, and demands a premium on price. the premium on price has to do with the gun being a collectible... and condition is very important on this one.

if the electroless nickel is factory... it could fetch much more. regardless of those great deals out there... i'd venture a guess at $850.00+. if i was in the market to buy, i wouldn't hesitate to spend $800.00 on a factory w german electroless nickel P226 in excellent condition... with no scuffs or scratches- including box and papers. if this gun is all original, and in excellent condition... it has some real value to a Sig Sauer handgun collector.

if the electroless nickel is not original from the factory... the gun has lost it's collectible potential and would be assumed to be a nice shooter. in that case, it would be worth what a shooter is worth.

it would be most helpful in value assessment if you provided some pictures here.

i am certainly not an appraiser, so those with differing opinions... please chime in.

i made some changes to my post... and added a little extra value, that imo was more appropriate to the gun's estimated worth.

again, it would be most helpful in tentatively assessing this Sig's value if pictures were posted.

$550 to $600.

bsg is spot on with his analysis. If the gun is in really great condition and the finish is factory, and it has the box and papers, then it would appeal to Sig collectors. The blue book of firearms lists a 98% Sig P226 at $725 plus $70 for the factory nickel finish. So figure right around $800.

If the nickel finish is aftermarket, then all collectability is destoryed which puts the Sig into a "shooter" category. Depending on condition I'd figure maybe around $600-$650.

I have an electroless nickel Sig P226 with factory original finish. It was manufactured about 1991 and I bought it used in 1998 for $600, as I recall. It is a very attractive gun, and I think it might go for about $800 today.

I agree with bsg's assessment but would price it more around $900 if condition is as op said. The full nickel versions are somewhat uncommon with the p228 being the most rare of them from what I remember. Been looking for a nickel p226 and p228 to match my nickel p220...

Can't remember when I'd picker her up - Sometime in the early 90s - 800 to 900 would be ideal -

Of note - Mine is from NH while Miltiades is from VA -
