WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Cooperate with the congressional investigation into the BATFE's failed Fast and Furious "Gun Walker" program.
In 2009 the U.S. government began instructing gun storeowners to break the law by selling firearms to suspected criminals. ATF agents then, according to testimony by ATF whistleblowers, were ordered not to intercept the smugglers but rather to let the guns “walk” across the U.S.-Mexican border and into the hands of Mexican drug-trafficking organizations.

People were killed with Fast and Furious weapons, including at least two American agents and hundreds of Mexicans.

Attorney General Eric Holder has consistently stonewalled Rep. Darrell Issa, Sen. Chuck Grassley and other congressional investigators.

Eric Holder and the DOJ and this administration must cooperate with the investigation.

In order to receive an official response the petition needs 5000 signatures by October 31.

What will the response be should 5000 signatures actually happen? Who knows? But it will be immensely satisfying to have them have to follow through!

We all know that this petition will not make Obama or Holder do anything. It won't cause them to suddenly own up to the situation and accept responsibility.

What it is doing is putting the issue in front of a LOT of people that may not be aware of the issue yet. I like that a lot!

Pass this around! Post it to your facebook or twitter pages. Help spread the word!

It will not be posted to the main petition site until it gets 150 signatures. Please help!

When it receives 5000 signatures inside of 30 days, the administration promises a response.

What do you think that response is going to be?

I doubt that it will be a satisfying response. But at least my opinion will be publicly noted. At least it will be if 150 like minded people join me in signing the petition.

I am sure that I have already been identified as pro-2a on many government lists. I am proud to be on those lists.

Of course they don't. I wouldn't be surprised if, were this to gain any kind of traction, it simply disappeared. Although at this rate, I will probably never find out if they will take it seriously or allow it to see the light of day.

Look through the list of petitions and count how many issues that are really gaining support run counter to the administrations policy. It is rather depressing.

Expecting them to comply or even respond would be naive.

Speaking out and having our voices heard regardless of the outcome is what being American is all about.

Please don't refuse to sign simply because it won't affect Obama's attitude or policy.

I have read many post on this forum about a lack of general awareness regarding Gunwalker and complaints about how the liberal msm is burying the story.

I agree.

I have read posts on cg suggesting ideas to spread the word ranging from demands presented to newspapers to planting links to stories on demo computers in stores.

This will put the issue in front of a lot of people that haven't heard word one. I don't understand why it hasn't already gotten the 150 signatures necessary to add it to the Whitehouse's own web page. Paste it right on Obama's own fluff and puff page. Come on guys, please sign it.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but these petitions don't do anything. They hold no weight, especially when you consider the numbers on a national level. The estimates I could find for gun owners in America is 70-80 million individual owners. With a goal of 5,000 signatures and a population of say 70 million owners, that's only .007% of the gun owning population. Why would anyone bow to pressure from that low of a percentage? If you look at the entire population of the US, both gun owners and non-owners, you're talking .0015%. Pretty dismal.

Have you ever thought about posting the text?

You can call me lazy but I'm not going to look until I know the content of the petition.

I hope it doesn't suggest anything dumb like dissolve the ATF, we need to have an enemy we can fight and win against, if firearm licensing and regulation falls to the FBI it will be much more difficult to make sure that gun rights are not abused.

Because of the almost overwhelming response to and activity on the "We The People" project on whitehouse.gov, The administration has decided to increase the threshold of signatures at which an official response will be generated from 5000 to 25000. Current petitions are grandfathered at the 5000 signature threshold.

While this will make it much harder for any single petition to succeed, it speaks to the fact that a LOT of people are viewing the petition pages and participating in the project.

While it would be amazing, my goal is not to get 25000 or even 5000 signatures. My goal is only to get 150 signatures so that this issue will be seen by many many people that may never see it otherwise. At 150 signatures, it will be posted on the public petition page of the administrations own website. How is that not worth a signature?!!

Please take a minute and sign this petition!

It's too easy for the WH to claim "Eric Holder and the DOJ and this administration are cooperatig with the investigation." And they'll point to all the docs they've already handed over and to the hours of testimony they've presented.

What this case demands, and what the petition should demand, is nothing less than an independent special prosecutor. Anything less will probably result in a white wash.

the investigation called for is good- but the objective is to get the general voting population educated about the obfuscation of Justice that the Administration is attempting to accomplish- getting the matter clearly and emphatically before all those who are either on the fence about Civil Rights and the practices of the the present Justice Dept / Homeland Security Departments to recognize that a "win at any cost" approach to public safety robs EVERYONE of both their voice and Constitutionally recognized Rights.

IF they bRaDy's were really about "preventing gun violence" they'd all sign it, preventing the people in this administration from doing this ever again.

But we all know that they're for victim disarmament, 2A abolishment and don't care what the .gov does because "they're here to help."

This!

It doesn't mean anything other than that they are scrambling. DOJ and ATF are getting caught in new lies almost every day surrounding F&F.

Let's spread this around.

If ""We, the undersigned, strongly urge the President of the United States to formally acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race and immediately release into the public domain all files from all agencies and military services relevant to this phenomenon."
can get 8000 signatures, we can do better!

At least there was one who tried to do right, although belatedly. This was the #2 guy at ATF. If he couldn't get the program shut down, you know orders were coming from outside BATFE, a lot higher up on the food chain.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-atf-personnel-20111005,0,6002965.story

William J. Hoover, the No. 2 man at ATF, will become special agent-in-charge of the agency's Washington field office,

Hoover had broad supervision over Fast and Furious, was given routine updates on the "gun walking" operation, and grew concerned over the number of firearms getting into Mexico without any U.S. indictments on this side of the border.

He tried to get it shut down six months after it began in the fall of 2009. But he failed, and the program continued until January of this year.

Reaching 150 signatures marks the end of phase one of this little experiment.

The Whitehouse required that the petition receive 150 signatures before it would be posted on the We The People (https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petitions) page of www.whitehouse.gov and be made searchable and available to the public.

Done:D Thanks in a very large part to Calgunners!

Earlier this week, due to incredible response and site traffic, the Obama administration increased the threshold for an official response to petitions from 5000 signatures to 25000 signatures. Fortunately for this petition, it was initiated before that change was made and is grandfathered at 5000 signatures.

5000 signatures is phase 2.

Help me spread the word!

I promise not to bump this and put it in your face every day. But if anything fun happens or if it really starts to gain momentum, I won't be able to help myself!

Nah...ain't gonna happen. Media is now saying it's Bushes fault.

I heard the head of the Justice Dept has requested a special investigation or whatever. And if that's OK'ed, subpoenas will be required to get docs from the BATFE, which supposedly are now being provided "as fast as reasonable"...?

I think Holder has successfully isolated himself...politically.

These moves are all politically calculated to take some of the heat off of the agency. The prior actions were too widely seen as superficial and not punitive against the responsible parties.

Recently I signed up for a new health plan. While creating an online account, they said they needed to verify my identity. I agreed and within a second they had their "contractor" create 5 questions. They knew where my home mortgage was, how much it was monthly, what kind of airplane I flew, where my son lives, and the name of the street I lived on in another city ten years ago. Very creepy.

That's all public information, when you secure a deed to any property it has to be recorded with the clerk. Part of the reason for this is to make sure other people don't have a claim already to the property.

Its been 16 hours since it hit 150 sigs
It has recieved 73 sigs in that time
That is 4.56 sigs per hour
It needs 4727 sigs and it has 24.5 days left to get them!
At this pace it will take 1037 hours or 43.2 days.
I need to pick up the pace somehow!!!!

Edit: ^^^ This is bad math.. A high altitude brainfart if you will.

At that time it was 123 sigs in 16 hours, not 73.

And now, it is past 300 total.

So in 19 hours it has received 150 signatures, or 7.9 sigs per hour. 4700 to go. 24.8 days to 5000. Much better.

I still need to pick up not maintain the pace.

text of email to NRA:

Hello,

I am hoping against hope that the NRA might be willing to post a link to our whitehouse.gov Fast and Furious petition on any of your social and web media sites.

We have created a petition on whitehouse.gov's "WE The People" page demanding that the administration, Holder and the DOJ, and the BATFE cooperate fully with the congressional investigation into the failed Fast and Furious initiative.

Here is the url: http://wh.gov/4ug

We are working hard to attract attention and signatures and are slowly but surely gaining momentum. The petition required 150 signatures to be posted publicly, that is done. It now needs 5000 signatures to receive an official response. While we are not naive to the reality of what that response would be, we are very excited to have our voices heard.

Any endorsement or assistance by the NRA would be incredibly helpful.

Respectfully
Michael Mutch
