View Full Version : Which 45?

I am looking for a 45 for CCW and was thinking about the Kimber Ultra, Colt Agent or the Glock 30, did I miss any? but I was wondering which were the most trouble free and how many rounds can be run through a 1911 before they need to be rebuilt. thanks

rebuilt? if well cared for it should never need to be "rebuilt", it may "need" refinishing, and it will need new springs and maybe an extractor eventually...out of those options you listed I would snag the Kimber...don't get me wrong, I like the New Agent, but I'd want the options of the Kimber over the Colt...you might wanna add an Officers model to your list as well :)

Paraordinance makes some pretty slick .45's for carry

I'm in the same boat and in the market for a smaller CCW gun to go with my larger handguns. Colt Agent would be off list and has crappy trench sights. The Colt Defender is the 3" on the list and has normal sights. Read good things. Of course there is always single shot exemption, but between the two Colt's I'd rather have the Defender. Of course, since I own a Kimber and like it, I am also anxious to try out a Kimber Ultra II. As much as I love Glocks I'm leaning towards a 1911 because the single stack frame is thinner and easier to conceal. If I do get a baby Glock, it will probably be the Glock 26 9mm. My other Glock is a Glock 17 and I like the economy of being able to use the G17 hi-cap magazines I already own.

Not sure the link will work but here is a Colt Defender. Pretty basic looking Compact 1911 but you can change the grips to fancy her up. I'm more worried about how she shoots. Usually runs $900 new. Comes with most the features you would want in a carry 1911.

+1 they make a really cool LDA (light double action) 1911. Very cool. Also the RIA 3.5" officer model Is good.

You won't need to do anything to a 1911 you wouldn't need to do to any other handgun out there.

I have a G30 and it's a chunky b**tch. I never carry it. I ended up buying a G26 to CCW. G30 now pulls nightstand duty.
