If I'm 18, and I cannot buy handgun ammunition, but a parent buys some for me, would that be considered a straw purchase?

I recently saw these nice 9mm deals at Wal-mart. :43:

They sure can. At 18 you can't buy a handgun but you can own one, same with ammo. For all anyone knows you are shooting it through a rifle which you can purchase.

No.

A 'straw purchase' relates to buying a gun for someone not legally qualified to own a gun...it has zero to do with ammo

It's perfectly legal for you to own and even manufacture handgun ammo. You just can't buy it until you're 21.

They can buy it, but you have to pay them back! :)

Ask them if they'll buy me some too. I'm running a little low :)

I buy ammo for my kel tec sub 2000 from miwall at gun shows. They never have ID'ed me when i buy over 1000 rounds..... Even the legitimate excuse of, " I am buying it for a rifle" doesn't fly with with stores like big 5 or walmart... which is annoying considering no one will sell me ammo for my RIFLE.

when i was 18 i bought plenty of .38 and 9mm from wal mart, just told them it was for a lever action rifle and they never batted an eye.

Well we just got transported to the twilight zone if you think the average teenager will pay you back. I'm waiting on two months worth of cell phone bills, money that could be used to buy ammo - FOR ME!

I tried the rifle excuse but when scanned it immediately asks if the consumer is 21.

And no, my parents don't buy ammo for me. I wish.

Anyone over 21 can legally buy it and give it to you.

Wonder if they'd sell it to you if you walked in with the rifle slung across your back.

LOL, I am sure this crap happens a lot!

Also I have a tip, make the kid pay for their own cell phone. Then you would have all the ammo you need.
