So after selling my glock 23 a few months ago, Im ready for a new .40. Went window shopping today and got ideas of what I want. Sig has always been on my wish list and was surprised to find one in my price range, 400-500. The gun that I have in mind is the sp2022.

Question is, how much did you pay for yours? pricetag was ~$515. I then called DGM and I believe they said $419, butt not sure as lady on the other end sounded rushed/bothered.

Sounds right to me. The sp2022's are reasonably priced.

419 is a good price.

You can get them for $399 sometimes on sale.

Sounds like the going rate to me. The price point is really attractive for a Sig.

I was in the market for the .40 but after trying it at the range I think ill save my pennies for a P229 or P226

Some people love it, but it wasnt for me. If you have the option to rent or try before you buy I would jump on it just to make sure you like it. I think the Glock and XDs shoot better than that sig. Just my opinion...

right, but would it be wrong/rude of me to ask shop A to price match to shop B? Iva bought two other handguns at shop A and two ppt. I really do not want to do business with dgm.

I think the $399 sale price was only for the 9mm.

$429 is the sale price ive been seeing for the .40 since it comes with night sights.

Someone correct me if im wrong...

What they quoted you is a good price.

ya shop A's price was for night sights. msrp shows $5xx. Should I talk them down?

Personally I wouldnt pay more than the sale price for that gun, it only comes with 1 mag and those are also a little spendy.

Nothing wrong in asking... go for it.

Those are the prices I've seen also (SoCal). I did read recently (Sig Forum maybe?) that prices as low as $369 have shown up on the Web (maybe Gun Broker). Don't know how common that is, and $399/$429 seems reasonable to me.

Extra mags can also be hard to find, especially the 40s I think.

ok cool, thanks a lot guys.
One last question though. Would this be fine for armed security duty? How about a level III holster for it.

Bought one in Sacramento a little over a month ago for $349 plus tax and DROS - the 9mm was selling for $399. Have taken it out to the range a couple of times and determined it's definitely value for the money.

yeah the .40 goes on sale occassionally for $420ish. Anything in the ~$500 seems too high. If DGM is selling it for 419, since it's a local B&M shop I don't see why the other shop wouldn't price match it. Usually shops won't price match an online price, but they will do a B&M shop.

Mags are cheap, at least the 10rd ones are. Buy them here:

I am a big SIG guy and have tried all of the SIGs. I recently purchased the 2022 in 9mm and have put about 3 to 4k rounds through it. It shoots well and I would not mind carrying it for duty. I am a LEO and have a SIG for duty carry as well.

Anything close to $400 is good for the 2022. Personally, if you can go a bit higher, I would buy a used 229 or 226 for about $500-$550 range. May take some time to find a nice one in this price range, but possible if you are not in a hurry. After the taxes, this isn't a whole lot more. But I am not sure how you feel about used guns; as long as you or you have an expert inspect the used pistol, and if possible put some rounds through it, used SIGs are just as good as new. My co-workers and I have many, many rounds through our SIGs and they shoot just fine; if not better than when they were new.

Would it make a good duty gun? That's what it was designed for! I believe there are some LE agencies that use it, and there's some tank armament unit or some such in the U.S. Military that uses it, too. It's big over in Europe; the French Police made the biggest gun purchase in history, and their choice was the SP2022 (and hence the name, as SiG is under contract with them through the year 2022). Yes, it is most definitely a duty pistol. The bigger question is how well it feels to you (and don't forget they make different sized grips & triggers, too).

cant find a duty holster for it.

Try Blade-Tech. I'm not sure if they make a Level III for the SP2022, but I know they make their standard SRB belt holster for it. If the SP2022 isn't listed in the drop-down "Weapon Selection" menu for the exact holster you want, give them a call and they might be able to help you out. They seem to be very customer oriented over there.

I agree. I think you will be happier with a P226. I love my P226. As for Glock,,, fantastic firearms, just not for me, but I would try one if you haven't. Don't suffer from Glock-coma :p, make your decision yourself

I was able to rent the P229 and 2022 side by side at the range.. I was hell bent on buying myself a 2022 just to have a Sig on the cheap... but in comparison to the P229 its night and day.

I prefer XD myself even over the 2022 after shooting it. but the more I shoot, the more i appreicate the P line of sig pistols.

My main reason for considering the 2022 in the first place was because every pistol I have is striker-fire. I wanted something with a hammer and a decocker. Im just going to save my pennies for a P220 Combat or P229

To the OP.... If this is a duty gun, that you trust to defend your life with... Buy what works for you, what feels best, and what you shoot best.

Hi
Yes, you will not be be unhappy with the P line. They are great. As for the XD, I have had bad luck with those. The slide never seems to lock up properly. As for Glock, I always shoot horrible with them plus my middle finger gets bruised after the first 25 rounds. My 226 shoots tight grouping without really trying.
Let us know what you do.

Different strokes for different folks...

I just purchased my 2nd XD, only because it hasn't once let me down. I run it wet, dry, I beat on it, and it just wont die...

I love Glocks too... heck I love all guns, except the hi-point lol.

The one I pick to defend myself with, isn't one I took someones advise on, its the one that's tried and true by my own hands. Belive it or not, I can shoot a glock or XD better than I can a tricked out 1911. Guess thats good for me because I dont need to spend $1500 on a pistol to get the job done.

Thanks for that info Bullwinkle. The company I just applied to had a sergeant, that told me to get a glock not a sig. I told him that I had one, and only because I got sold on the name. Today I held more, and I cant see how I looked past the trigger reach. Guess I just made it work...
I really want a 226r they had there. Felt amazing, maybe with tax return.

So, I bought the sp2022 today. I ended up buying from discount gun mart. They were very friendly and fast. I have no idea why I had not wanted to do business with them. My favorite shop did not want to price match. They wanted $515. Went to DGM, priced at 419.99, was told that if I bought today, it would be $399.99. SOLD

The gun feels great in my hand. Love the trigger reach and pull. Only have to get use to the decocker.

Congrats, sounds like you just made several good choices, the Sp2022 is a nice gun, and you.did the right thing by shopping and asking for a deal, also making business with DGM was a great choice, sounds like u went to santee, great crew there, now that you are LEO, get a memebership.there, its around $140 for you and you dont pay a penny for the next year, plus they give you 10% off on purchases and if anything goes wrong, they will ship back for warranty on their dime.
Oh yeah and next year, the Morena blvd will have a Rifle lane!

Your SP2022 is a .40, right? I thought those already came with Siglite sights? Regardless... I know for the Classic P-series pistols the #6 front and #8 rear is the correct combo for .40; I ASSume it's the same on the Sig Pro, but look at the sights that are currently on the pistol to make sure. There will be a small number on each. Assuming your pistol shoots true, that's the combo you'd ideally want for a replacement.

Ya, got it in .40. Fine Firearms had it for $515, and DGM had it for $399.99 but with contrast sights. To good of a deal to pass, so took the hit to get it without night sights. Just seems like there's not much of a aftermarket for these guns.

9mm is not .40S&W. #8/#8 is the correct combo for 9mm. #6/#8 is the correct combo for .40... at least on the P-series.

Truglo makes a set of TFOs in #6/#8 combo; I have these on my P226 & P229. You can find Meprolight & Trijicon sight sets to fit also, but I'm not sure if they come in a "one size fits all" package where you just have to make due or if they break it down like Truglo does. You can also buy a set of Siglites direct from Sig (for which, BTW, Trijicon and Meprolight are suppliers).

Regardless, you shouldn't be having a hard time finding aftermarket sights for your SP2022. The dovetails on the sigpro are the same as the dovetails on the P-series.

FYI - Always remove Sig sights from right to left!

So, for a p226 in 9mm, the sights should be #8#/8 ?

I'll check the armorers manual but that sounds about right. I think the only 6/8's are the 45ACP.

The armorers manual does not list configs, just height/number correlation.

Thankfully, I have a gun reference library. 8/8 for 9mm is correct
