Ok, for home defense. . . which of these semi-automatic shotguns would you get? According to GunBroker.com the only price difference between the two is about $120.

The Mark I is longer by a couple inches, but then it has two more ammo capacity over the standard SLP model.

Why in the world would I even think about getting the standard SLP model over the Mark I model if it's only $120 more??!!! Or am I completely missing something?

$120 for +2 capacity of ammo, for a shotgun you plan on keeping for the rest of your life - worth it?

I'd get the one with the 18" barrel. In fact, I've bought three shotguns with 18" (or 18.5") barrels. It's my preference, which is what you've asked. I just have not gotten around to getting an FN.

For home defense, I'd go with the shorter barrel... a 22" barrel would be rather unwieldy moving around my house.

For competition, 22" barrel and extra ammo capacity is always handy.

Its a shotgun you won't need the extra 2 shells and they are easy to add rounds to.

The 18" is much more manuverable inside a buidling and has a better balance to me.
