Got a used Mini 14 from a member of Calguns. It came with both a wood stock and a Hogue overmolded, extra mags & rebuild kits, a scope, Mo-Rod stabilizer & muzzle brake.

The scope passed away...so I decided to add an optic. Got a Vortex SPARC from another Calguns member with a Daniel Defense mount.

Had a local gunsmith do a trigger job for me...just to clean things up. $55 from T&T Gunsmith - he did a very nice job and it is now much smoother and breaks clean at 3.5 pounds.

The issue I ran into was stock weld trying to look through the higher mount that allows use of the stock iron sights. Just ordered a Tactical Black Color Cheek Rest w/ Detachable Magazine Pouch for $16.00 on Amazon.com. Hopefully that will help me achieve a more consistent stock weld.

Shooting PMC 50-grain ammo (shout out to Action Guns in Rancho Cordova) I can shoot 5 rounds in 10-15 seconds off a bench and keep the group under 4".

I'm gonna try it again as soon as the cheek rest gets here.

Any ideas on a different load that the gun might like better?

And yes - my next rifle will probably be an AR. I was trying to keep everything budget...but my wife pretty much said I can do what I want. :43:

I love my 581series mini. Just put an Accu-Strut on it. Shot 55grain PMC Bronze and Rem. UMC at USI. Got 200rds of 4 different kinds/weights of 556/223 and am going to be testing them out and figure out what works best.

At least your mini is shooting 4", mines couldn't hit a barn side if you wanted to.

What distance is that 4" group at? I know at 100 yards I can keep everything within 3" using just the stock sights and federal xm855, granted that is taking my time with my shots.

100 yds. I wear (I know, sounds like BS excuse) progressive lenses that work just fine for normal stuff but very hard for me to see well enough shoot well with this set up. IF I push my glasses up as high as they go I'm still not looking through the rather small "sweet spot" in my lens.

When I first got there, I shot 2 shots in a row (without breaking my stock weld) just to see if they would group (and where, since the gun was bore sighted but not dialed in). Those 2 shots were about 3/4 apart. I'm hoping I can shrink the groups with a combo of a more consistent sight picture and maybe an ammo it likes better.

For all your Mini information go to www.perfectunion.com over 130,000 postings on
the Mini. I found that the Black Hills 69 gr. worked very good in my stock Mini 14.
Also Federal Match 69's were excellent also.

Nice setup. Is that a flash hider? If so, remember to take it off before you come back to CA, or slap your bullet button back on.

Whats up with that long *** rod under the barrel?

Whats up with that long *** rod under the barrel?

Strut that increases accuracy, keeps barrel harmonics down. Acts as a heat sink as well.
Popular on Mini 14s. Especially the older pencil barrels.

I have the Accu-Strut on my factory Mini, AK74 Brake, trigger job, extended mag release,
retorqued the gas block and put in different sized gas bushings. All helped with accuracy.
Mini can be made to be fairly accurate with some home done modifications.
