View Full Version : AK74 zero question

zeroed my ak74 today, had to move the front sight almost all the way to the far left , but it is now zeroed. the sight base doesnt look canted at all. Since its zeroed would this just be a non-issue? Just looks weird with the post so far left, but from what i've read its a common occurrence with AK's? Since its zeroed I'm thinking this is now just a cosmetic issue..

It's a common issue, and if it's zeroed now just don't worry about it. It's not likely you'll be adjusting the windage ever again.

I have the exact same problem with my AK. I was going to take it to a gun smith to move the front sight block so the sight post is centered but in all reality its a cosmetic issue and id rather spend the money on ammo. Your not alone.

def a cosmetic issue if your point of impact is your point of aim.
My WASR (along with many others) is like that.
Hell, my $$$ LMT is like that!

I dont know why I hear about this 10 times more when it comes to AK's, when its just as common on AR platforms that have a triangle sight.
Considering how girly some guys get about obsessing over their ARs you would think it would be the other way around.

your front sight in canted!

front sight is not canted. It appears to be the rear sight , its not aligned straight.. I'm just going to leave it as-is since its zeroed. Just kinda buggs me a bit seeing the post off to one side but I'll get used to it eventually.. The thing was hitting steel targets at 200 and 300 yards repeatedly at angeles range so its good to go.

Who cares if it zeros : )

When you zeroed your rifle make sure put it in the sandbag front and rear. When we pull the trigger it normal that the rifle will move at the left side if your right handed without sandbag on it. Try dry firing your rifle and observe the muzzle movement when you squeeze the trigger.

It zeros within the specs of the adjustable sites. that is what it is supposed to do. Sure, you WANT it to be centered but, the loose tolerances of an AK won't always give you perfect results. Yet, it'll still work. Isn't that part of the beauty of the design?

Dont worry too much about it. I put a little scope on my bulgarian 74 and with iron sights I dont have the ak sight adjustment tool. But even with it not zeroed I still hit 200 yards body shots all day and scope I hit 200 yard head shots all day.

Mine's the same way, but it's dead on accurate (yes accurate, not precise), so that puts a smile on my face. But yeah, be nice if it were centered. However, the factory witness mark is lined up on the windage drum on mine.
