I'm looking at two different brands of rail for an AR build. Which one is better in terms of design, durability and quality: Daniel Defense or LaRue Tactical?

I loved my omega 7. Looking for a 9 right now for my coming middy great rail.

Never used a larue but you can't go wrong with either.

Both are good quality but I usually go with DD lite or Omega X for the weight.
Consider the VTAC Extreme TRX.

Might depend on if you are building from scratch or want a drop-in. If you want a drop-in then DD Omega is the only way to go. If it doesn't matter either way, then they are both built similarly and they are both excellent. That being said, I have DD rails on multiple rifles and highly recommend them - I have never tried a LaRue rail.

I highly recommend the Daniel Defense Omega 7.0. I have one on my AR-15 and the damn thing is rock solid. It has great quality and workmanship, it works like it's supposed to and it is very easily installed at home by yourself. You don't need to remove the FSB and flash suppressor like 1-piece quad-rails to install it. Oh, and it's free-floated.

Of course the preferences you have with respect to your build will temper your choice. I went with the DD 10" Lite. I love it! I wanted to cover the gas block for toughness, but overall liteness was a primary concern. Plus it was made to work very well with the DD 16" light weight barrel. Also, the X-section is oval(ish) and fits the hand very nicely. The install could not be simpler! And the quality (like LeRue) is top notch. I found myself gravitating toward DD over LeRue over all.

I have had both the DD Lite Rail and the LaRue, and they are both solid. I am currently running a LaRue. I'm pretty sure you would be happy with either.

I have Daniel Defense Omega 7.0.That thing is solid and super easy to put on.
I'm getting the Larue 9.0 on the mid length soon.

No, the Larue and DD are very different. They have only vague similarities in their designs. If you sat them on a table next to each other the difference would jump out at you. Both very nice and they do the same job. I just like the look and feel of the Larue better.

One of my ARs has the Larue 12.0 rail on it. Very solid. Nice rail. Can't see much of it because I have a light, KAC covers and rail ladders on it.

For a classic M4 however, I would not recommend the hassle of having this kind of rail installed or spending this kind of money upfront to have it come with a rail. I would just add a drop-in rail later.

I have a Knight's Armament drop-in rail on my M4 and absolutely love it. You can find great deals on this rail online if you look hard enough.

But if Daniel Defense floats your boat, go for it.

yeah, i went and looked at it and they are. i run DDs on four of mine and only one larue. and the LT is on a rifle i built for my brother so i dont see it that much. the rails feel the same to me though. it seems like the machine quality is exactly the same, but they used separate mounting systems. the DD lite series is the absolute lightest weight on the market. as far as strength, the lite does have flex to it where as the larue doesnt budge.

If your lite rail flexes its installed wrong

Here is a Free Float Comparison Chart (https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pwswheghNQsFnUZMkZNF2DQ&output=html) that can help you decide. Keep in mind that the DD lite is slightly lighter, but it does not include a QD cup like the Larue's do (if that matters).

IMO, i prefer the DD mounting system along with the uninterupted top rail (personal preference IMO, since bridging optics isn't really favorable)

The Omega 7 is less than one ounce more than stock M4 plastic handguards and can be installed without removing the FSB or flash hider. Hard to beat that.

Especially if your hider is pinned on. I wanted an 14.5 half M4 upper, but was worried about a rail system down the road. After I found the DD omega, it was no brainer.

U should also look into centurion arms rails as well.
