I had to send my Smith and Wesson 1911PD back for a new plunger tube. This is the second time its been in. Granted the first time it went back it was mostly cosmetic, and I could have loc-tited the grip bushing back in myself, but I'm bummed its gone (I'm going to have to use an AR or a Shotgun for HD). Smith's warranty section has been fantastic to work with though.

:(

Yeah i didnt think guns designed to go to war and defend your life could break. Until i had a coupke that broke. And them you're out of the gun for weeks. I also have a SW that i sent back yesterday bc the frame broke in half! Yeah, i couldnt imagine that something like that was possible. hopefully s&w's customer service is as good as ive read on the interwebz.

Eventually I plan to send in my Glock and Kimber for refinishing. That's gunna suck being without both for however long it takes. Lately I've been all about the handgun.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....

We don't need no factory rework.....:43:

On a serious note...Smith and Wesson isn't what it used to be.

Be well, Bob

Anything mechanically made will and can have problems. The expectation is that what you get should be 100% out the box is not always the case. Which is why you have returns and warranty. It seems they are taking care of you which is nice.

Thinks happen...Look at Microsoft Windows products. Be happy we do not use it as weapons.

Frame broke in half???? :(

Yeah, check it out. And I REALLY liked this gun, too. I guess the material that the lower frame is made out of isn't exactly durable. Only 7 weeks old and 4200-ish rounds... And no, I wasn't using it as a hammer!

Wow! That's just nuts! I had a SW1911 that was fantastic in every way though. I should have kept it but I prefer a dark(blk)gun. SW does have great cs.

This is a perfect example of why you should always have more than one. Don't forget the saying "Two is one and one is none". ;)

Yeah, I was going to the range 3-4+ times a week, and blowing through 200+ rounds of .22 as a warmup. I'm already missing my .22. I'm sad, just like the OP.

I had a 40 cal. taurus millenium . Its broke somewhere on the frame and the trigger or hammer didnt work. It was one of my first gun purchases. I like to rapid fire and test them out with different ammo to see if it would jam or malfuntion but the frame broke. But Taurus had a good warranty. I sent it in and they fixed it. When I got it back I was still disappointed so ,I sold it to my brother in law for 250.

4200 rounds in 7 weeks . I'd expect 7k rounds at least. 1k per weekend. On a 22 cal. You can shoot every day if you wanted to.

I've been leaning that way for a while. I took a class a couple years ago now that was all G19's and they grew on me. I'm really a Rifle shooter and this is the only handgun I own. Ether way, since we all like pictures....

I'm even more sad because 2 weeks ago this knife and all but one magazine were stolen with my go-bag that was in my truck.

This is the second plunger tube I've heard of coming unstaked in the last couple weeks. Wonder if the plunger tube posts are too short to start, of if the posts aren't getting properly peened?

when I do plunger tubes I also loctite them in (a drop along the tube, and a drop in each post), and they'll last until the zombies are all gone  lol

I read a few threads about these coming undone. Some said it was poor quality plunger tubes. I had contemplated having a smith do it.

A good Ed Brown or Wilson Plunger tube is easy to install and should stake in just fine with the proper tools. I never thought of the Loctite, but may use that as well the next time I do one just takes a couple of minutes.

I hate to have guns out for repair, that's why I've purchased many of the tools and keep a small stock of parts so I can do some of my own repairs and upgrades. Anything that requires milling or machining I have to send out. A small milling machine would be a great addition! and of course being able to hot blue and nickel plate would also be fun. Oh and having a 25 yard range in the basement would also be cool.

Lucky. I called and was told they had it and it would be 2-3 weeks before they even looked at it. I didnt receive and havent yet received any email. I asked if someone would contact me and let me know what was going on. the guy was basically like, call when you want, but we'll get to it when we get to it, and maybe we'll contact you when we want to. He was actually kind of a smug ***. Wasnt exactly living up to the rave reviews for s&w customer service...

Any luck?

Mines back. The tube is fixed for now, they say they replaced the trigger too but it looks like the same trigger to me. I just asked them to take a look at it because it seemed to be a little loose up and down. Oh well whatever its back not and I'm really happy about that.
