View Full Version : Where to send 1911 for dovetail cut?

Title says it all, I'd like to have my slide on my stake-on-front-sight 1911 converted to take dovetail sights (if possible), mainly because the previous owner welded the front sight on, and I'd like to change the target sights to shorter night sights. I'd also like the convienience and availability of dove tail sights in case I later change my mind and want different sights.

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith I could ship it to to have the slide cut, and then sights installed? I've been to just about every LGS, and they all either won't do it, or have a long waiting list for gunsmith work. I'd like to send just the slide to avoid all the hassle of shipping a handgun.

I had several of my 1911 pistols worked on by EGW -Evolution Gun Works, Inc.-.
Worked on with exactly the work you describe with great quality and price .
Just just do a search for EGW and you will find it easily .

Novak is probably the most popular dovetail. You can send them directly to Novak they have a website with instruction. You can buy the sights and have them installed at the same time the dovetails are cut. http://novaksights.com/novak.html

I'm getting the Novak fully adjustable rear and fiber optic front on my 1911 Springfield. I sent mine through CCR because they are doing the refinishing work and some gun smithing for me. I have used them before and their work is excellent. http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/

Also very popular are Heinie sights they offer a fast turn around service: http://www.heinie.com/index.php

If you just send the slide it is a very easy shipping procedure:

Another option.

Novaks, sent my slide to them to cut and install night sights and got it back in less than two weeks.

If it were me, I would send the whole gun so it can be properly sighted in, rather than just sending the slide
