I'm piecing together a short(er) 308 AR and need some help choosing a muzzle brake/flash hider. Barrel length will be either 14.5" or 16". I know these things can get LOUD and that the brake has a lot to do with that. I also want to minimize the recoil. This will be a lightweight, <200yd hunting rifle. I'm considering the FSC30 and the Battlecomp, but would like some feedback and suggestions.

Thank You!!

Any brake that does a halfway decent job at reducing recoil is going to make the rifle louder, that being said, the SMG bolt ons I've installed on a few saigas aren't bad... Then again, from the perspective of the shooter, to the perspective of the guy in the stall next to you, or bystanders nearby, that noise increases exponentially...

I'm aware of that, but I know that some are worse than others. Short of buying 5 different ones to experiment, I'm hoping some folks here can lend some of their experience.

You are going to ether want just an A2 style, or maybe a PWS, I have a PWS on my .308 and I love it.

I've got a Smith Vortex on my 16" AR308 and have been really happy with it. It's does not perform as well as a muzzle break as far as recoil mitigation; but it does a great job of flash suppression and does not seem to me to be as loud as some of the other .308 muzzle devices I've shot with on ~16" barrels.

If recoil mitigation is the most important factor I would probably go with the Battlecomp. Personally, I lean more toward keeping the noise directed away from me and the muzzle flash minimal, but recoil mitigation is important as well.

The Battlecomp does a decent job of directing most of the blast forward rather than to the side.

I have the PWS model on my POF .308 16 inch barrel. It does a excellant job recoil,Only bad thing is if someone is next to you ,they get the muzzle blast. It is a little louder than the A-2 style. Also much softer than regular A-2 style.Like the one on my REPR,Which I am going to change also.

PWS is a good middle of the road brake. Not to aggressive but still does a make a difference.

Look at spike's dynacomp in 308. Very close to the battlecomp.

interesting, it does look like the battlecomp, except they have a suppressor threaded model. might go with that one, as ive debated getting a suppressor for my 308.

Thanks for all the suggestions and keep 'em coming! There seem to be some good products out there. I know there is no magical product that does everything, I just want to be able to make as informed a decision as possible.
