Hey all. I'm in the market for a .308 rifle that i can punch paper with for fun but will primarily be used in the field for deer, pig, varmit, zombie apocalypse etc. Both of these are 20" in .308 but the Savage runs about $100 cheaper and has a detachable mag. I know the Remy die-hards are going to tell me there is more that can be done to the 700 action but I don't have the time or money to do much, soooooo which of these would be the best bang for my buck out of the box? Other recommendations are appreciated as well if they are comparable in price and function (I'm looking at you Ruger fans). Thanks

Good question, because Savage vs. Rem. bolt guns has not come up recently, many times, at all....

Search my friend, there was just a lengthy thread going just a few days ago with the exact rifles you are interested in.

That aside, I like Savage, I like my 10FP 20" in .308, and I like the Accu triggers on my savages even more.

I have no regrets with my savage.

Blue moon or Shock top?

You cant go wrong with either. My pick would be savage.

Thanks for the opinions, ill do some searching in the threads. I'm just totally ignorant about the newer savage rifles but they seem like a lot of gun for the money. Much appreciated.

Have had both, in a lot of different calibers. After many years I only have Savage rifle’s in my gun safe, I only wish I could find a Striker (Savage Bolt action pistol).

My buddy has a Savage model 10 with a heavy barrel. Compared to my Remington 700 the Savage is substanually heavier. If you like a good bench rest/tactical rifle then I'd say the Savage is for you.

Sharp Shooter Supply sells 10 round mags for the Savage. Good for Zombies.
