so, if i have a non-roster smith and wesson revolver, say a 686 no-dash, and i want to send it in to smith and wesson for repair or customization, CAN I? is it legal to ship it to a repair shop out of state, then have them ship it back to me?

Yes, but if the repairs demand a new frame and serial number, it would have to be Drosed again........maybe there is an exception for this, but you might not be able to get it back.

An expert opinion is on the way I hope.

ok cool, i was just wondering about having a 686 tuned by their performance center, and maybe a custom barrel installed, and maaaaybe depending on the cost, converting it from 6 shot to 7 shot, but thats a big maybe.
