I've been thinking about a .22 revolver for a while, this one is now on the top of my list. I already bought my gun for this year, maybe next spring.

Too expensive and too heavy. Mostly too heavy.

Not compared to a S&W 617.

Heavier=no recoil.

I wouldn't compare this to a 617. Ruger revolvers don't compare to what a Smith is supposed to be; S&W quality lately has not been up to those expectations. I really prefer rimfire revolvers to be lighter than centerfires unless I'm using it for cheap practice similar a certain model of revolver. If you carry a Ruger centerfire this would make sense at its weight. Otherwise, for me they need to lighten it up.

Yeah, that's a major consideration in .22lr ...:D

My old sp101 4" .22 isn't too heavy at all, although it doesn't hold 8 rounds. And as far as the MSRP goes, rugers msrp is at least 10% higher than gun shop pricing

I would... steel frame full size exposed hammer, and da/sa invites comparison. You could lump me into the group of Ruger centerfire owners though.

You guys are probably more the target market than I am. I've only bought 2 Ruger DA revolvers. One is a Security Six I gave to my soon-to-be wife. It was her choice and she still has it. The other is a Redhawk .44 mag I picked up a while back. I'd rather have a Model 29 even though I think Smith quality has declined a lot. I won't say no to a Ruger revolver, but I don't care much for them.

I bet this one will be priced about the same as the other sp101s. ~$500

I'll buy one, but I will wait until it is $500 if it starts off higher than that after it gets on the roster.

Too much for a 22lr...I have a 357 sp101 for lot less.

How many .22 double action revolvers can you name that are on the Ca list for under $500? .22 revolvers are great fun. I have a .357 SP101 myself, but put 2 500 round value packs of .22 through a .22 revolver and the same amount of .357 through an SP101 and add up the ammo cost.

Anyone know if Ruger plans to put it on the roster? I've sent a "note to the CEO" asking them to put it on. Maybe if a few more folks ask they will realize the pent-up CA market for it.

They were shipped a while ago, one online retailer had them at $489, but was sold out already....I think it is a deal at that price as a 617 commands about $700. this has a 4.2 inxh BARREL; hopefully they will do a 6 inch in the future!!!

I wonder if they did a trigger job on these. I had an sp 101 .357 and the trigger pull was tough! it will be nice to check out though, it looks very cool.

Someone said this will be on the roster in 2 weeks - did they get that from Ruger?

$489 for a full sized 22 LR revolver is great in today's market. My ole Dan Wesson 22 is starting to show its wear, I guess close to 10k rounds will do that to one.

Exactly what I was thinking when I looked on their website.

As impractical as it would be, I'd like to see more snub nose rimfire revolvers. The S&W 317 is nice, but I want more options.

Ripon83
09-16-2011, 7:54 AM
You know I have a Dan Wesson pistol pac with 2.5, 4, 6, and 8. I never use anything but the 4. It's ideal to me. The 8's never been used.

The S&W J frame revolvers have a great single, but HEAVY double action trigger. The SP101 is not that bad. I want one, but the question is, will it get on the list? maybe not.

My Ruger .357 GP-100 gives me minor trigger slap, but I don't care, I want this .22 Ruger badly, even if it has that issue as well.

Ruger, please make this Kali-legal (on the "list") somehow!

What are the roster rules for a double action revolver?

Single action pistols are exempt, if you meet dimension requirements.

Converting to a single action might be a method to get there.

Fingers crossed on Ruger making the list.

"Two Weeks" is a Calguns inside joke. Think of it as, "We actually have no idea, and it will probably be never." ;)

Start saving your nickels, I just got an email from Ruger this morning:
"Response:
Yes, the California board has approved this handgun and it should be on the list (hopefully) within the week."

I want this revolver, anybody want to buy my 3" S&W Model 63 8-shot? I'm partial to Ruger's.

What happened with your 617? Did you send it back to s&w to get it fixed? I'm pretty sure I'm going with this instead of a 617 now.

You'll have to wait until the roster is dead, no new 1911's will make the roster.

You'll have to wait until the roster is dead, no new 1911's will make the roster.

Well, they COULD make the roster, if they included a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect. But then, would that be a REAL 1911?

I wish California would at least drop the mag disconnect and allow the passive loaded chamber indicator of the little sight window on the barrel hood that Springfield [and others] have/had. Then we would just need Ruger or Magnum Research to make a barrel with that little 'window' and we could have them.

Damn. That won't happen.

Here's hoping that the list dies in the next year or less.

I have one of the older ones 6 shot SP101 22.LR, but that new one looks pretty darn nice.
Like the fiber optic front and the new stye adjustable rear sights. My old one has always preformed well for me. I'd be hot on the trail and may still be.
