Tactical Turkey Shoot Food Discussion

Shooters are Eaters! No surprise there and this shoot n eat is a greatly way to Give Thanks for our Heritage and Civil Rights, we Gather, we Shoot, we Speak (well we Bul*sh*t) and we Eat!
Here is part of the menu, We need FOOD! Its kind of like a Pot Luck but not completely.

Menu:
We will have 6 turkeys and 6 hams donated to us.
We need some help cooking and delivering this food.
We will need BBQ’s and a Microwave :) or 2!!
We will need SIDES!! Mash Potatoes n Gravy, Sweet Potatoes, Veggies, Stuffing, Mac n Cheese, Chili beans, Chili, Beans and Rice, Chicken and other and stuff “ASK if You have a thought”!! What is your specialty? No Chips, store bought cookies (Homemade cookies, cakes, pies are awesome and ok to bring)
BUT! You need to Let me know!!
IF you are not a cooking person (me for instance) you can still bring something, here are suggestions.
*Bucket of KFC
*Juan Pollo chicken - http://juanpollo.com/locations/ you can get 3 cut chickens for $22 dollars with sides and they make great chicken.
*La Tolteca - http://latoltecaazusa.com/ you can get Beans, Rice, Green Chili and tons more
*La Fonda Don Chon - http://www.fondadonchon.com/menu.html Talk to Jimmy and get a tray of Enchiladas  or other excellent stuff.
*Get food from your Favorite food joint, just make sure it can feed 10 people and you tell me what it is you’re bringing.
*Bring Your Own Drinks!
So One Last Time, If You Want To Eat From the Pot Luck, You Need to Contribute.
If you bring a party of 10 then you need to bring enough food to feed your party and others.

So our challenge shoot will be 2 stages, 25 various types of target per stage, that must be reset after each shoot, it will be timed, you will get 30 rounds and a penalty for leaving a target. this will be an individual fun challenge we will run from opening to noon and hand out prizes.

Will we need to pre register at all? And will there be a small bore sillouete type challenge range? I would love to do somthing like that since I mainly shoot .22s. Though I might be able to borrow a shotgun from Dad for this event.

Each bay has a clipboard with a sheet of paper describing the course of fire (including the number of targets, number of shots allowed, etc.)

So when each group gets to the stage, they can all read the course of fire and ask questions before getting started. After each shooter the group will need to help reset/repair targets to make things move fast.

Thank You Ken

Wanted to add a quick blurb:

* We will have a person offering to sharpen knives for $2 each, half of proceeds to go to CGF. The only ones that can't be sharpened for now are the ones with small serrations like steak knives. Pocket knives and/or utility knives are good to go.

Pistol is any caliber.Rimfire is .22lr. Rifle/carbine is any caliber. 30 rounds needed. You can use irons or optics, BUT NO SPECIFICALLY MODIFIED FOR COMPETITION weapons will be allowed. We want to give everyone a fair chance to win the grand prize. Info on type of targets, distance, and course of fire, will remain with myself and Penny's Dad until the day of to maintain a fair contest.

I am willing to lend my 22 out for the right price :) Just kidding, I'll have several 22 rifles and a couple 22 handguns for use in the challenge bay that I will be RSO for any Calguner to use if they need it -> im getting really excited about this years TacTurkeyShoot!!!

EDIT: please have you own 22 ammo, preferbly CCI minimags, much better than the .22 Remington Golden Bulk pack usually on sale @ Big5 somewhere near 20 bucks. The CCI blazers bulk pack does better in the bulk pack group

Tactical Turkey Warning!!
Join Calguns.net and CRPA and help us track down the ever tricky Tactical Turkey!
Last year 200 Californians got together at Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa, CA. to Shoot, Eat, Meet and Greet! Oh and we also shot turkeys, a whole lot of them, over 200 Tactical Turkey Targets met their maker that weekend.
This year we are at it again, bigger and better! Once again we’ll meet at Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa, CA, Sunday November 13th all day, 9am to 4pm. This time special guests are stopping by and donating special goodies…
• Addax Tactical a local Custom Rifle maker in San Fernando, Ca.
o www.adxtactical.com

• Burro Canyon Shooting Park

Since this is a pre-Thanksgiving Tactical Turkey Shoot we’re having a Pot Luck lunch with turkey, ham, and all the fixings! Our partners will bring the turkey & ham, and you just bring a side dish to share with 8 others, and everyone else brings a dish to share with you, trust Us, this works! Shooters are eaters and the food will be tasty!
Follow this link to the food: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=476645
• We will have 2 challenge stages for a grand prize, and you must compete to win.
• Tactical Avenues will be donating their time to run one of the challenge stages, so it should be Pretty Turkey Terrific!
There will be a few more special surprises, but you must show up to find out what they are.
So be there or be a turkey!
This special day is for you, the California Shooting Community. The CRPA, Calguns.net and our sponsoring partners believe that You are the greatest asset in the battle to Regain, Retain, and Strengthen the Civil Rights our Countries Founders fought and died for.

Yeah my car is pretty low and has very pricey wheels (HRE) that I do not want damaged, so I may just get a loaner if I go. I really need a more practical car from these types of events + plus tracks days. grrr.

I need something I could haul my bike, and good on gas, so American is probably out...(worth mentioning that I'm a chevy guy). lol. I hear the Nissan and Toyota are great pickups. Wish I had the brass to put down on a new Tundra but I'm not really a huge truck guy - A beater should work fine.

Just talked to Jerry at Burro Canyon, he says he doesn't see anything wrong with the turket fryer, so we're good to go. It takes 45 minutes to heat up the oil, then 3-4 minutes a pound for the turkey. Mine's 13 pounds, so about 45ish minutes. After that, the fryer is free if anyone wants to do another turkey. I'll try to still make a pasta salad. I'm gonna bring my camp stove, maybe I'll make some mash potatoes too. A microwave and generator would be good if anyone is still willing.

Great shoot (darn kids went through 500 or 600 rounds of 22). I've got so much turkey left over, I'm gonna be turkey-ed out by Thankgiving. I thought CALGUNNERS could eat!!! I'm underwhelmed by the eating ability, but it was still a great time.

It got downright warm and was great shootin' weather. Some excitement when a couple of deer strayed into the line of fire off in the hills. Naturally, everyone ceased fire and a couple of good Samaritans went downrange and shooed them off without incident.

Good times. Thanks to those that made it happen. Seeing responsible gun owners and enthusiasts embracing their 2A RIGHTS gives me the warm and fuzzies.

It was a great shoot. We had 5 full families there with kids, dad, mom's and friends. We had Appleseeders, NRA Members Council, CRPA, AK Team members, MODS!! and Calgunners of course, representing.
The 7a line was line up think with C&R's, FABGUY that rifle was serious cool. I was shooting Rocketmans M1 carbine, Nice! and Brian's UZI, Nice!

Not the tactical turkey but an excellent family shoot.

hope u didn't pay $15 to shoot only 1 hour.

that is why i didn't even go, cause i thought it was going to rain so i slept in and by the time i woke up and noticed it was sunny, it wouldn't have been worth it to drive the 2 hours round trip for just 2 hours of shooting.

^ ^ ^ Even though I wasn't able to shoot as much as I originally planned (was all my own sluggishness and fualt that day for me being late :nopity:), the trip, experience, and showing up and being a part of the shoot was all well worth it.

I just wish I was able to get some pics of all the guns that were there, at the very least.

My favorite one that I saw there that wasn't mine was BlackLoTus's .22 LR Kel-Tec rifle. What a beaut! :drool5:
