Anyone still use an old fashioned 30-30 Winchester lever action? What else do you use?
I'm supposed to hunt Vandenburg AFB next month and I'm thinking of bringing my 375 H&H magnum. It needs to kill something besiides ground squirrels.

Gotta admit, I have never been pig hunting yet, but I do have an invite, and I think I am gonna use the Socom M1A I built.

Obviously you have never gone in the bushes after hogs or hunted public land.

M-14s are almost 9 pounds! You'll have some fun draging that out into the field :D!
My favorite gun to use for pig hunts is a tie between my Marlin .30-30 lever gun and my Beretta Xtrema2 loaded with Federal TruBall slugs. I like the Xtrema2 because the reciever is rigged for scopes (I use a red dot for pigs and turkey).

I don't feel 100% comfortable hunting pig with 7.62x39 (similar to 30-30) ballistics. I would, but I'd rather take out the Beowulf.

went out just once...I was with a buddy who used a .44 Magnum in a Marlin lever action rifle. one shot...that's all that was needed.

That's what I use a 375 H&H on a falling block single shot.

I used to use 30-06 and a 357 sidearm. I put most of 10 rounds in a pig that did not know it was shot and supposed to be dead. I now use a 300 win mag or a 45-70 and have a 44 magnum side arm. So far 2 piggies and no problems.
I just picked up the stainless model last week

These are fine rugers for the pigs

Over the years .30-30 has probably taken more pigs than all other rounds combined. It has also taken quite a few deer and bears as well although I don't use it to take them myself.

MDL 99 in .300 SAV. Whatever you use make sure you are shooting quality controlled expansion bullets.

I use My 45-70Govt. Marlin 1895 and my .45 1911 A1 Springfield GI when I go pig hunting. I use to use a sporterized enfield chambered in .300 win mag but found it less effective then the Marlin.

300 WinMag from a Savage.
I've only taken one with it so far, but no problems.
I used a 30.06 on Javelina without any problems either, but, they are way smaller.
