California Watch has created a database that you can search by bill number (ie. SB427) and see who is lobbying the legislature on that bill.

Read the write-up and access the database here:

Does this reflect people who have lobbied FOR or AGAINST this legislation...or both? How can we tell?

No, it does not tell you what the purpose of the lobbying activity was. The title I made could have been better. Keep in mind that all lobbying is not to simply support or defeat a bill. Lobbyists may work to change language for clarity, regulatory burden changes, add/remove penalties, etc.

An example - SB 819

See who lobbied SB819 ...

Q1 2011
Association Of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs
B & L Productions Dba Crossroads Of The West Gun Shows
Cemetery And Mortuary Association Of California
Fraternal Order Of Police Lodge State Of California
Kpmg Llp
Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association
National Rifle Association - Institute For Legislative Action
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department
Q2 2011
Association Of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs
B & L Productions Dba Crossroads Of The West Gun Shows
California Attorneys For Criminal Justice
California Rifle And Pistol Association, Inc.
Cemetery And Mortuary Association Of California
California Statewide Law Enforcement Association
Fraternal Order Of Police Lodge State Of California
Fraternal Order Of Police Lodge State Of California (Amended report 1)
Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association
Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs' Association

Each of those is a link to a filed 'Report of Lobbyist' form - the one I picked on was the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs, and they paid $8000 to a person 'James Vogts' of San Dimas.

Mt Vogts apparently works for the Sacramento deputies as well - see https://www.scdsa.org/political/legislative_report_july_2011

Then we can look at the followthemoney.org page for Mr Vogts - http://www.followthemoney.org/database/lobbyist.phtml?l=72756

Moderately interesting...

of course all the police are for opening up the money bags for enforcement. That's a sure sign of a bad bill.

More proof that LEOs are over paid.

more proof that as long as their unions help them get great salaries, they don't care what happens to us. You think the unions would do this if the cops were upset about? "we still have ours"...for now.
