Sources say ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-20080479-10391695.html) is being moved out of the top job at the Bureau. It's not yet publicly known where he would go, but sources inside the Justice Department believe one option is a transfer to a position at Department of Justice headquarters.

Transfering him to a position where he can be watched or controlled?

Why does he have to have somewhere else to go to? (except prison)

He should not be in public service after this.

Not bloody likely. He will accept his demotion, get transferred to another post(probably a raise) and we'll never see him again.
Holder will not be allowed to fail and the real scumbags in this whole 'under the radar' attempt to circumvent congress will go unpunished.

And the agency will, likely, get Andrew Traver as it's next acting director by way of a recess appointment.

Nice work when you can get it, eh?

BATFE is, and has been for some time, largely a rogue agency feeding a political agenda in exchange for continued funding and more power. It regularly oversteps it's regulatory bounds and nothing comes of it. Now their institutionalized malfeasance, Gunwalker / F&F, has cost an uncounted number of lives on both sides of the border.

Where, at long last, is the justice within the Department of Justice?

As far as I'm concerned his "get out of jail free card" is the fact that he defied Holder and testified before congress that the rot extends a lot higher. The administration removed him as a distraction/scapegoat and to keep him from handing over records to Issa. This ill be the second whistle-blower to lose his job in the coverup and combined with promotions in exchange for silence from the local supervisors this tells me that the rot goes a lot higher.

They ones that I want making big rocks into little rocks in the federal penitentiary are those gave the orders and/or failed to blow the whistle and those that hampered the investigation. That's everyone with involvement or knowledge of the operation from 1st level supervisors to the AG, and possibly into the Oval Office.

As of now its looks like someone named Todd Jones is going to be acting director. Anyone know anything about him?

The announcement said that B. Todd Jones, a U.S. attorney from Minnesota, will become the acting director of ATF starting Wednesday.

For all in the SD area (or anyone else really) you can send Issa a message here: http://issa.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=597&Itemid=73

I imagine he is getting resistance from every corner. Might be nice for him to hear some supporting words from his voters to keep going as long and far as he can until the right thing is done.

Here comes the big O-ppointment, Andrew Traver, to save the day and rescue us all from evil MG's and cop killer bullets!!! Part of the plan all along, I presume.

Nothing new here, folks....

Melson appears to be getting 'booted upstairs'. Likely a sinecure or 'rubber room' job.

They can't fire him - retaliation, plus they worry if he talks more.

Let's not blame Melson for this. He probably was mildly aware of various investigatory actions at the border and not tThe depth/extent of the issue nor other worries at the time it started - and these were likely not conveyed to him.

He clearly was overridden and bypassed, chain of command violated, etc by higher-level Justice officials micromanaging the F&F project.

Melson is a typical bureucrat. He'd love to sit in that chair without doing much, which should be fine with us.

Beware of what you wish for, you might actually get it... if you don't like Melson, you're REALLY gonna "love" Andrew Traver.

Looks like he has a new job already. BTW, I hope things don't take a turn for the worse! ATF has actually been very fair to us.

Link that article to your Facebook pages to get the word out.

How convenient that this happens 3 days before the long Labor Day weekend. Look for a recess appointment by the president to circumvent Senate confirmation.

ATF has actually been very fair to us.

Outside of CA and a few other anti states, who in the world has been worse than the ATF? They make their own rules and laws (hint: "Interpretations" of the law). They pull out whatever they want from their black hat that they're supposedly bound to (Law).

No, I would not say that the ATF has been fair to us. It may seem that way because we are much more oppressed by our local/state government than other states are by the ATF. But that doesn't mean they're fair. They are a rogue agency that has strayed far from their original purpose.

CNN and the rest of the media remain in cover-up mode but Fox has been all over it. Today they reported Melson out and Todd Jones is in as his replacement. I haven't had time to research Jones yet.

Perhaps contacting Rep Jeff Denham (R-CA) to continue his practice of gaveling in the House during general recesses will prevent Travers from becoming a "recess appointment".

I think he means the ATF has been fair to him personaly, which may well be true. Every ATF agent I have come in contact with (almost none) through the FFL03 process has also been very helpful.

That doesnt mean I dont think the BATFE needs to be checked, fast and furiously

But that doesn't mean they're fair. They are a rogue agency that has strayed far from their original purpose.Their original purpose wasn't good either, and they're keeping with the spirit of it to the letter.

Wow, from agency head to a tech assistant to a Deputy AG.

He's been 'kicked upstairs'.

It's a 'promotion' in terms of a slightly larger number on his paycheck and/or one notch up on a GS rating ---- but that's it.
