I was looking on GB.com for a pink 10/22 for the GF and came across this description for one. It's pretty damned funny, but may piss some of you off.

"Used Ruger 10/22 semi-auto .22 Lr. Blued, with factory 10 rd, magazine and a Pink Hogue stock with a 4x Bushnell scope. Excellent condition. For $30 extra will include the factory wood stock in like new condition. Payment by M.O. and FFL (no faxes or downloads) within 10 days of auction ends or item will be relisted. Sorry no CA. sales (even tho its pink). This item is for sale in my shop and auction could end at any time. Once bid has been made the firearm will be placed on hold. Please add 8.25% for Texas purchase.Free shipping to lower 47 states. Please ask questions before bidding."

Sounds like he is an FFL too.
I wonder why someone would alienate 12% of the United State's population and the state with a total number of gun owners second ONLY to Texas (yes, it is true)?

Bad business practices if you ask me. Won't be around for very long.

Seller probably wont sell to CA due to his own ignorance regarding CFLC procedures.

Since he's from TX, I will quote a person from his home state in response.

Ease up guys. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at me for posting up the ad and for looking to buy a pink gun. The point wasn't his unwillingness to sell to CA, but his jab at CA for being a pinko communist state.

BTW, I've often wondered why most GB.com vendors won't sell to CA even if it's a CA legal firearm. After trying to sell a rifle to a coworker of mine (AZ to CA transfer), it pretty much answered my question. It's too much of a pain.

Sorry about the joke, I was hoping you guys would get a laugh out of it.

I believe to ship a firearm to CA FFL, the sending FFL must fill some paperwork and get approved first by CA DOJ?. Someone else with more experience will probably chime in on the exact names of the form and everything. But it's just an extra step that's all. I guess they just don't want to deal with that kind of stuff, which makes no sense because CA would be their largest out of state market for profit. On the other hand, if it's a private party selling/shipping the firearm, they can just ship straight to CA FFL without any approval ahead of time.

Some of those idiots, especially the private party guys, think they are making a political statement. Something along the lines of opposing Hitler by starving out the Resistance. Brilliant piece of logic there.

Having read more of their rants that I cared to and seeing where these clowns live, I am willing to bet a lot of it is envy, plain and simple. They live in dying little loservilles and nohopevilles and all their miserable little lives they have watched their first girlfriend, their high school buddies and everyone with a future or some talent and ambition leave there and come here. Now they are just old and bitter. They have probably always hated "The Golden State" because we are here and they are not. Now they finally have a chance to lash out with some retarded, ignorant little rant and for one brief little moment in their empty lives, feel like maybe, just maybe, they aren't the absolute bottom of the barrel of America.

That's my theory anyway.

Actually, from his point of view, it may be a rational condition of sale. We can't really expect every seller in the remaining 49 states to be current with our changing laws and their interpretations. If the seller, even in good faith, is wrong just one time the consequences would be disproportionate to the potential profit on a $XXX item.

YMMD.

Too bad most of the out-of-State (Fly Over States for a reason)...seller's have no clue how much Bu$iness exists in California. Imagine an FFL from Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona..(serious free states) who spent a few minutes
converting off-Roster handguns or modified black rifles for the California Market. He would be overwealmed with business.

Most of those FFLs are blue-collar hicks obviously.

If he doesent want to sell to CA then he does not have to. I am sure that even though he is cutting out 12% of the nation, the other 88% buys enough of his product that it will not sit on his shelf long enough to be marked down... If he has no shortage of people from the rest of the nation to keep his shelves empty, why would he waste his time jumping through hoops?

Those with talent or want a future (successful small businesses) are leaving California.

Believe it or not there are plenty of places outside of California where people go to prosper and enjoy the company of downright nice and intelligent people. Take a road trip, you may actually find a place you would rather live.

As for not selling to CA.......yeah I take it as offensive but also funny and understandable. People have lost hope in California and someday you may too.

Calguns and its members are fresh drink of water in a vast desert and have had great influence with gun sellers all over the U.S. This attitude about California has improved on Gunbroker and I don't think it was by accusing everybody else of being from Loserville!:cool2:

I am a born and raised CA boy, from San Diego for that matter, I joined the navy and have seen how other states live and I cant wait to get out of this state.

I am now out of San Diego and in Lemoore. Someone asked me if I miss the city, I thought about it and nope, the only thing I left there are traffic jams, hour long 30 mile commutes, smog, azz holes on the freeway, high prices. I now hunt 10 minutes from the house, commute 11 miles in 15 minutes, and love it. When I retire I will go to one of the free states that lets me buy whatever I want, and doesn't tax my retirement check, and still charge me 250 buck to register my car. you clowns can make fun all you want. But CA is a huge pile of losers. We elect governors that told us BEFORE the election that he lies to get elected. We are the most taxed state in the nation and we are broke! OK, well, that was written with my tongue firmly in my cheek, but since you want to dissect it, let's.

I have travelled more globally and domestically already than most do in a lifetime. I am not being chauvinistic or saying there are not other nice places. There are. There are also a lot of places that are vanishing from the map because nobody under 30 wants to live there. I recently turned down a transfer to Dallas for the second time and I have also turned down transfers to DC (live in N. Virginia) and will leave my company instead. I expect to do just fine here, as I always have. People are leaving, but others are arriving. The composition of the economic base is changing and their are winners and losers. Only one side of the story is interesting to people like you. California has always been an easy place to live overall and much of the state is as beautiful as anything you will find anywhere. People fantacize about faraway places, but most are just places with their own troubles too. We take our climate for granted - others do not. I can still make a lot more money here than most other places. A lot of people, beleive it or not are not into guns and are not that politically conservative or active.

My point was that since I was a kid, there has always been an element in this country that hates California because it is threatening to them and/or is better than where they are stuck. Its like all those people that hate America even though they are stuck in some third world pisshole. Jeaousy is never pretty and some of those people have probably been hating California for 30 or 40 years or more and some of them are selling guns on GunBroker.

Anyone who says they hate CA and continues to live here has no credibility - especially the ones that say they'd have better opportunities elsewhere. They are just whiners. My advice to those people is: Life is short. Don't waste any more time. Move to where you will be happy and get on with your life. Then you too can refuse to sell guns on Gunbroker to California residents.

^^Yep,

No joke, I've messaged a private seller once on GB about why they won't ship a perfectly legal C&R to CA. Their response was "Because I see that some other sellers won't sell to CA".
Now I've begun to see sellers (FFL's) stating in their ads that they will ship legal CA items, but for additional $20.00 fee for the "paperwork". It's an outright joke because the CFLC is totally free and takes 5 minutes to complete.

The fact of the matter is, folks in other "free" states don't know what it's like to fight tooth-and-nail for their 2A rights, everyday.
So cutting CA off is simple for them, as they have no perception of the impact and the drudgery they do to fellow gunnies by contributing to it.

Huge amount of truth in this.

I'm not quite as down on the state as you are, but you are making some pretty valid points.

The state is unfriendly to business, unfriendly to freedom, and in many areas - just plain unfriendly.

Still a lot of good in California which the fascists haven't been able to destroy, however.

Edit: And if you are a low-volume firearms seller you'd be an idiot to sell into California. Trying to learn all the bizarre twists to California firearms laws for just a few sales just isn't going to make much sense. If you are selling a lot of firearms I think it makes good sense to learn the laws and start servicing the rather large market in California.

I'm not saying this to throw gas on the fire, but I cannot agree more with the above statement. In all seriousness, if any of you ever have the desire to leave and then the oppertunity, give it a shot. I did it 4 years ago after 30 years in SoCal, and you guys wouldn't believe how it's changed my life. Your expenses go way down (property taxes, vehicle registration, insurance, to name a few). Recreation is minutes, not hours from your house, etc etc etc. And for me, lowering my stress level and gaining more recreatin time is what I've decided is most important to me. If any of you have ever suited up in your garage, jumped on your dirtbike, and headed out for a ride because you can street legal it, you know what I'm talking about. Believe me gentlemen, I'm on your side with this.

The worse part is finding a girl with all her teeth, though:D

That's my theory anyway.

And a wonderful theory it is, too, but I can tell you, as a Native Texan, that not many Texans feel that way.

I have lived here since 1968, when I reported to a San Diego Navy command as a brand new Ensign.

When I was ordered here, in the middle of the Viet Nam war, California did seem like a magic place. That's where Disneyland was, and Rick Nelson and Annette Funicello lived. Ronald Reagan was Governor. Now it doesn't seem like that at all. The governor is a socialist *****, the Hollywood stars are mostly a bunch of criminal perverts.

I'm going back to Texas. Part of it is being sick of the communist government here, the idiotic gun laws, high taxes, absurd government, the elected officials, high taxes, anti-business over regulation, and last but not least, high taxes. California has been turned into an anti-business, anti-liberty, over regulated, socialist hellhole.

When gun sales are so tricky anyway...... one wrong mark on the voluminous documentation and you are a criminal banned for life from having a gun, (unless you are walking the guns to Mexico )....... I can understand those out of state who don't want to take the chance of some strange and hopelessly idiotic procedural snafu just to make a sale. There are plenty of customers in the other states. Who needs the hassle?

At about my 15th year of my 25 year residency in Ca., while in Colorado my uncle mentioned to a feed store owner "this is my nephew from California", and I immediately received a weird look. After leaving the store, I asked my uncle what that was all about. "Whatever takes place politically in California has a way of spreading to other states, and we want none of it" (he was speaking about onerous regulations)...and he is as apolitical as they come.
His cattle ranch is paid for, the scenery is spectacular, his registered bulls sell in the 40k range, and at his private shooting range, no one ever sweeps him with a muzzle.

Other than that, his place isn't in California so I guess he is just "stuck" in that hellhole.:D

A lot of those idiots don't know anything about California laws. Everytime I'm in Florida or Texas and it comes up I live in California, some dumbass over there starts mocking me because I can't own an AR in California and so on. I can't count the number of times where I emailed a Gunbroker seller about his "No sale to CA" mention, and explained to him that yes, this firearm is perfectly legal in California. A lot of them are really surprised and have no idea. They think semi-auto ARs are prohibited, they think they can't ship C&R long guns directly to CA FFL03 holders, etc.

Mostly those idiots just repeat whatever FUD they've been fed by the local ignorant gun shop owners, and they all think California is just a bunch of SF and Hollywood liberals, because they don't know crap about politics and history in this state.

I recently won a bid on GB for a gun that was /is on roster. The ad said that they would ship to CA. The dealer had never sold in CA. and the transfer dealer I use said he was too busy to walk someone through the process, so I walked the dealer through the process. I contacted DOJ and spoke to a very helpful women who emailed me the links to the documents which I forwarded onto the out of state dealer and that was that. He was was not only pleased to sell the gun, but now he sees a new market as well.
I have emailed other dealers that stated NO CA SALES and asked them why. One said he could not support a state that had such restrictive laws. When I explained that by not selling to CA residents he was hurting the people and not the pinhead political A#*h***s. He thought about it a couple days and I got the product, with a nice thank you for opening his eyes. Often times it is as simple as asking them why to make them change their minds, but if they don't then send your hard earned money to someone who will. Remember"The market will punish the majority"
Ignorance can be corrected.
