View Full Version : AR10 Scope - Bench Shooting to 300 Yards?

I will be shooting a 308 AR10 off a bench from 100 and 200 yards, and sometimes at 300. Paper targets. A good scope for this? Weight does not matter, but clarity and magnification so I can see bullet holes easily is a major plus. I probably don't even need zoom, since range is always pretty much fixed at 100 - 300 yards.

I have a Bushnell 6 - 24X and I use 20x at 100 yards, but it starts getting a bit fuzzy and dim at 20X and up. 15X is OK at 100 yards.

Thanks.

I agree with HK Dave, I just finished building an Iron Ridge AR-10 and put a Leupy 2.5-8x MK 4 but am going to go with a SWFA 10x42 HD. The optics are crystal clear on their scopes and hard to beat for the price...

For the price the PST is one of the hardest scopes to beat. I feel the Bushnell’s are OK. Another one I have been testing out is the Weaver Tactical there are a few things I do not like but over all they seem to be a good scope also. I prefer the PST still.

Might want to also look at one of the new Leupold-manufactured Redfield Revolution 3-9x50's. For the money, they're pretty hard to beat. If I were shooting 500 yards, I might consider greater magnification, but at 300, you should be fine with that.

I see some others recommending what I consider low power scopes. I am fully aware of the downsides of high magnification in various uses, but for the most part, this AR10 is staying parked on the bench. 9x at 500 yards seems like I could not really drill down on the target. I use 15X or so at 100 yards now. I realize a higher quality scope can allow me to get to a lower magnification and still precisely aim, but can not see 9x at 500 yards if aiming for tightest groups possible.

Someone asked about price range. I did neglect to mention that. Figure $750.
