Honestly doesn't that sound like a great idea? (and no im not the first or only person to have thought of it) They made a 308 right so why not? There's even a rare 30-06 out there! You would think as important as the 54r was to them they would make a saiga for it!

Just sayin...

Between the VEPR and the 308 there's probably not a huge market for an x54r variant.

I'd probably buy one. Been very happy with my other Saigas.

There is the Waffen Werks AK-54R, which looks promising though.

Saw the title and got excited! Good caliber and even new ammo is pretty inexpensive.

I don't think I'd want a gas gun though so I can shoot corrosive ammo and have a quicker and easier cleanup. I shoot it in my Mosin but wouldn't, for instance, want to shoot it through a 5.45 AR upper and feel the need to take it apart and clean out the gas tube and whatnot after every session...

The romanian PSL's pretty much fill the 54r ak pattern gap in the market. And they're relatively cheap. I imagine it'd be difficult to be competively priced and still make money.

i also got excited. i would really like one and make it look like a SVD/RPK variant. you would think they would make one.

-and i thought the PSL that they have aren't that great especially if the barrel heats up then you lose accuracy- dunno :shrug:if this is true maybe somebody else can chime in on this.

Ive seen the waffen works and it's price tag!!! The vepr 54r is perfect but pricey too. Part of the appeal of the saigas to me are there low price on unconverted models. Then putting it together the way you want.

Thats a good idea. I would rather buy a cheap Saiga in 7.62x54r rather than a 1k VEPR. At least so i can have a semi auto in 54r.

The psl barrel is long and somewhat thin. As a result when subjected to rapid fire the barrel can droop a littlefrom the heat. The hot ticket is to chop about 4-5 inches off the barrel, turn/thread for the fsb/mb, re-crown, and rock n roll.

Just a heads-up, I spoke with both Atlantic and WaffenWerks about the AK54 and it is no longer being produced. PSL and VEPR are the only real semi-auto x54 options out there.
