Does anyone know anything about Model 1 Sales? or maybe have any advice for me based on their catalog?

I'm thinking about getting the Standard A2 20" 5.56 upper from these guys for $315. I haven't seen lower prices anywhere..... which makes me nervous about the quality. What do you think?

the upper I am looking at is on page 29 of the catalog...

Got the 20" stainless steel varmit hunter kit from model 1. Came as ordered, on time, with the right parts. I may be wrong and anyone feel free to correct me but I believe most of the guys selling these kits are getting them from the same goverment contractors.? Any ways, assembled in a couple of hours and except fpr a small problem with the recoil assembly (my bad) have had no problems and excellent accuracy. I love the qoute on here about "if your AR wont fire YOUR doing something wrong.

I purchased my upper and build kit from Model 1 and, while I'm not an expert, the quality seemed very good, the fit was perfect it came pretty fast.

No complaints here.

I've heard mixed reviews on their customer service, I've never ordered anything from them personally, but I imagine if you aren't putting *a lot* of rounds down range with it their middle quality parts will be more than adequate for range use.

I had some issues with their customer service, but happy with their product. If theres a problem with it, they will pay for return shipping. Turns out mine didn't really have a problem. My AR had the same issue as any 7.62x39 AR. I solved it by trimming the back of the bolt. Works perfect now

Does that price include B/BC/CH? It doesn't look like it.

If not, and you need them, that would add $120 or so to the price. At that point, you're in the same price range as a Stag or RRA upper with chrome-lined barrel (not chrome-moly) from Legal Transfers over on arfcom:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=344444
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=257039

A number of other dealers there have similar deals.

If you ever wanted to get rid of it, the resale value on Stag or RRA is better than M1S or the other no-name vendors.

I've got several JT uppers (similar to M1S, but with lots better customer service), and they've been just fine, but if I were buying a new upper today, I'd buy a notch up for the same money. Even if you don't need the B/BC/CH, you could sell the set here for $100 in no time.

my first AR was built up with a M1S kit. The upper is flawless and shoots very well. The stock is a standard A2, not much to go wrong there. The LPK was seriously out of spec and crap. If I did it again, I'd still go with the M1S upper and buttstock, but I'd get a real (RRA, Stag, etc) LPK.

I got my 24" Tactical Upper from them:

http://simple-photos.smugmug.com/photos/122602586-L.jpg

It shoots really nice, chrome lined and chambered for 5.56. I didn't get the YHM handguard though, but I'm upgrading in the near future (translates to no moolah:mad: )

I got it pretty fast too, within 5 days it was at my door. I don't know about the quality of the the uppers in their inventory but mine is very good. No problems encountered with customer service either.

I've ordered a 16" car kit that was ok. I've heard that they can have rough chambers compared to the manufacturers like rra, dpms, stag, colt etc... Their customer service was exceptional on my first transaction. I've since traded the upper for something else and ended up buying a RRA upper. You can get a RRA upper from legal transfers for about the same price though and I think you are getting a better product. On my latest order from M1S, they took twice as long as the other parts I ordered at the same time to arrive. The finish on the A2 buttstock is crap and it is such a light grey color it looks like @%^ too. I'm sending it back. You will be happier buying the name brand stuff especially considering its about the same price. $315 +120 for bolt & carrier = $435. RRA upper from http://www.ar15sales.com/rrauppers.htm is $414 for an A4 and $450 for an A2.

the complete kit minus stripped lower for a standard A2 20" is only $460! I'm considering taking the plunge with these guys just because I ould build a complete AR for $550..... are you guys with negative comments sure it would be better to wait and spend closer to 800 for a better rig?

I have had good luck with their parts kits and barrels for a couple of low end, cheap builds.

What do you mean OK?:p That upper has been on two different lowers and I have not had one FTF or FTE in over 1000 rounds. Pretty accurate too. Here is what it looks like now.

By the way Bill W. loves M1S. He raves about them. J/K.

I say buy it. Shoot it. Have fun with it. Then slowly save up money for another one (like I did) once you've learned how to properly take care of it and know what you're looking for in your next AR.

I agree. This is what I did for my first, and it worked out great. I'm moving up as I get to know more about them, and you can get most of your money back later on them...

When I got my lowers last year I ordered a Varmint kit from J&T thinking that it would better match my DoubleStar lower. What a nightmare!; after being told it would ship in about 3 days and accounting for the UPS truck I waited and waited........ I called them and asked "where is my stuff?" to only be told "oh, we are waiting on the barrels and they will be here tomorrow and we will ship it out the next day via 2nd day air and pay the extra freight charges".
Needless to say, after 8 more business days I called back to ask "WHERE IS MY S**T?" The lady (very nice) put me on hold after a bit of stumbling then a man gets on the phone and says "we dont have the barrels yet" I told them to just screw it and cancel my order. You had thought I had taken his last oreo cookie from his reaction and seemed surprised that I would actually have the gall to cancel! HA!

I promply called M1S and had the kit in less than 4 days, matched my DblStr lower perfectly, is deadly accurate and after 2000 rounds has had no problems whatsoever!!! I was so pleased I ordered their standard A2 kit for my Lauer lower and it is ever bit as good as the varmint kit. I would not recommend the 'national match sights' if you have so-so vision as the peep hole in the sights is extremely small and hard to see through.

I know that other people (BWEISE) say that M1S is basically crap but I am very pleased with both kits ordered and the end results acheived...

I dont feel it is possible to go wrong with M1S. Don't know where your located but if you are nearby you are welcome to try mine.

What distance? I myself could probably do better than that if it were, say, ten feet .... maybe ten mouse feet ....
