The beretta RX4 semiautomatic rifle, may be an ideal choice for california. It accepts standard AR-15 magazines and can be configured without a pistol grip. I'm not sure if it is for sale yet, but it may be worth the money.

If the price is right, I would pick one up.

Yes, we already know about this one from the last (2006) SHOT show;

Now if Beretta would only start selling them to the general public (at a decent price to boot).

It may be good, but it seems it's LEO/gov only sales only.

Not sure if there are 922(r) import issues or not (but then the Benelli R1 is sold in USA).

It certainly could be rendered in CA-legal format.

No, it's actually engineered.

I emailed Beretta about civilian sales over the summer. They emailed me back saying that the RX4 was expected to reach the civilian market in late 2007. That being said I do not know what Beretta was saying about it at the Shot Show.

I wish it would be sooner. I wonder if any LEO or military organizations have bought these. Its hard for me to imagine the RX4 as anything but a civilian rifle. That being said, I want one.

I called Martin Redding in Culver City today to inquire about this new Rifle. Talk about confused. They said it was named on the Assault weapons list and that even with the rifle stock and no flash hider it still qualified as an assault weapon. I asked the man to inquire with someones else who may have more experience in these matters in the store and he said he asked the manager who also agreed. This coming from a gunstore that sells M1As, Mini 14s, Kel Tec su16s, etc. I guess I am not suprised, I bought a Benelli M4 on gunbroker and they said they could not DROS it because it was an AW. Then a month later they had them for sale. It is sad when the sellers of firearms do not know as much as the informed public or bother to read the letter of the law.

Aren't hunting and sporting firearms exempt from 922? And the Benelli R1 exudes "hunting" and "upper class high-tech" from every pore, even if its guts are strangely similar to the Beretta RX.

I haven't looked into this deeply but if hicap mil mags are available that may color the 'sporting' determination', unless the RX4 were rendered to use proprietary mags. (Think of WASR-like thumbhole AK clones that take special 10rd mags - if they are modified to take hicap AK mags then 922(r) stuff comes into play...)

Yes, and it would be a good idea if Californians regularly remind Beretta that it can be sold in CA, that there are lots of gun buyers with ready money in their pockets here (as evidenced in 30K+ OLLs sold), and that they could make a nice profit by serving us well.

It's over 50K OLLs now - it was 30K in March '05!

They were probably thinking of the Beretta CX4 carbines, which are AWs because of the thumbhole stock.

I think they accept M-16 mags. The ones I checked out at SHOT looked well made. The LE ones had that Benelli M4 style telescoping buttstock and flash suppressors. They also had the sporting stock, plain barrel versions on display. No idea what the prices will be.

Rule No 1. Never ask a question to someone who works in a gun store:-)

I really hope this goes comes to CA. We need something other than the Mini 14 and Su16 trash.

anybody know for sure what mags it takes.i'l take one if it accepts ar mags

The LEO version takes AR15/M16/STANAG mags for sure.
Since this might make it impossible to get it through ATF for civilian use, we don't know yet what that version will be like...

Speaking of the Rx4, both it and the Cx4 are in the next Ghost Recon.

Sadly we won't get grenade launchers on ours.

Last year the rumor was that it was going to be $1500-2000, but one distributor has it added to their inventory list (none in stock) with an MSRP of $1000. Hopefully that's accurate, or close to it, if so I'll get a couple.
