Does anyone know which bushing wrench will work with the Rock Island 1911 tactical? I got the Wison one thinking they would be universal and it doesn't fit.

No

I've got one... never used it.

Push the cap down, rotate the bushing, remove the cap, rotate the other way, remove the bushing.

I do. I don't live in a cave, either, even if a cave might be a perfectly serviceable abode. I like my comforts :)

If you install a tight match bushing in the RIA 1911 Tactical (as I did), then a bushing wrench is essential. I use the blue plastic Wilson Combat wrench, works great and doesn't mar the finish.

the wilson bushing wrench should work, i have one. unless you're using the wrong end, or it only has 1 side... for officer 1911s.

fwiw, i've always used my magazine base plate to push the plug down while rotating the barrel bushing. exceptions are kimbers and my new springfield mil spec, for some reason the bushing is on there really tight.

I always used the bottom of my magazines to deal with the sharp bushings in front of a strong recoil spring. With the standard recoil spring, it doesn't even hurt to just use your fingers...

I really thought this was the universal norm. I guess this skill makes us in the know even more elite. ;)
