I want to add a heat shield to my Mossy 500, any suggestions? I hear the biggest problem is slippage after quite a few rounds.

my mossberg 500's short barrel has been rockin' the metal heatshield from tacstar for 10+ years with hundreds of shells through it (shot/buck/slugs) and no probs....it's on there, a tight fit, and the bolts are cranked down with locktite for some insurance. I like the tough look it adds, and although there is added weight, it doesn't bother me.

cheers!:D

edit - realized that this is in the gallery, so:

justin - i am also thinking of getting the heatshield for my mossberg.
i was debating as to whether it is worth it, but i will get it nonetheless.

coy - what light are you using? i do not want to get a $300 light for my
gun only costs $430 OTD. kinda not worth getting a light that is almost
as expensive as the gun.

See my signature for my 500 link, I have a HS and I opted for the plastic one.

for the low price, the Nebo was not a bad buy...I've shot with it on a bunch of times and surprisingly, it still works..

that said, my other short barrel pump has a Polytac LED....and I love how bright that thing is, almost too bright...for about the same $, plus what ever you choose for attaching it.

Cheers!

Astroboy, the cheapest way you can go is a barrel clamp and a cheap LED light (just make sure it's trust worthy so you don't find yourself aiming in the dark).

I've got that same Nebo on my desk and not my gun at the moment. I've put zero rounds through my shotgun with it attached because I didn't like the mount(it's too big for 1 inch rings) and only one out of eight LEDs actually works. The rest are either dead or flicker. It worked fine when I first got it but I swear one died every time I flicked it on. If you look at the reviews on Amazon, dead LEDs and complaints about the mount are common. If you've got one and it works great for you, more power to ya. I just wouldn't recommend it.

I'm keeping it for the laser pointer.

bummer - sorry to hear it crapped out

again - at the price point, if I were to be deciding on another torch, I can't recommond the Polytac LED highly enough. only down side is they use CR123A lithiums....

Thanks for the Polytac recommend. I was on the fence about getting one of those.

check ebay for a heat shield. I have one on my mossberg 500 short barrel. I have shot every size shell through it and it is still tight. Use locktite if it comes loose.

I bought my 590 9 shot sp and it came with one. Took it off to shave weight. Never looked back.
