View Full Version : RobArms XCR, DSA FAL or Springfield Scout squad
If you had the money for one and didnt have any of these, which one would you buy first? Why?
Springfield.....No AW issues.

m1a scout, I've had mine for a few years now and I've never had a jam. Plus I hear that our troops are using these in Iraq so if it's good enough for them then it's good enough for me.

You forgot real FN FAL or real HK-41/43
The DSA or Springfield for the dozens (and dozens) of high cap magazines that I have for use in them. Of course with the FAL that means a fixed magazine or a MonsterMan grip (hint!).
I should have just put FAL to include everything. But I was thinking of having rifles with almost the same price ranges ($1000 - $2500).
I guess the HK would be under "other"...
Lets assume you have the following in mind:
1. Willing to spend within the price range up top
2. You've got your 5.56 rifles but might want to go .308 for a change (or vice versa)
3. Want something factory built
4. No listed weapons

I bought the DSA last year and needed to do a butt stock change to make it shootable. I'm happy to be back with the FAL again. I love the M1A (owned 5 including a Devine TX version in the 70s) but I gave my late 80s all GI parts M1A to my GI son for his shooting pleasure. It is a rifle that he can shoot for the rest of his life. I had owned an SAR 48 before I moved to CA in '88 and I decided to replace the gift M1A with the tactical carbine DSA due to the short length and light weight. Not quite as accurate for deliberate shooting as the M1A but still a nice rifle if not overpriced.

Springfield M1A because there are no issues with the detachable mag.
You can use all those 20-rounders you stashed before the ban.
You could do the same on the DSA, but obviously you take a risk of somebody seeing you, talking & getting busted.
If we're talking pure SHTF when we won't be concerned with firearms laws, it's still a toss-up between the FAL & M14.
Frankly, I'd be perfectly happy with either. Both have proven themselves and earned their place among the finest battle rifles in the world.
