I visited a LGS this afternoon to look at a S.A. Mil Spec 1911. I've never had a 1911 and after doing some research, this seems like a pretty good platform to begin with and customize in the future. This one has a NM serial number so it was assembled in the USA. The price is decent. Nothing to brag about but he's a small shop and I would like spend my money with a little guy...
Your thoughts on this?
Does anyone have any pics of customized parkerized Mil Specs that you would like to share?

I have a Mil-Spec in Stainless Steel, however it is not modified in any way, but it sure shoots nice for me.

Very cool pistol. But wait. What model is that, precisely? Since when did SA offer a Mil Spec with a full-length dust-cover/rail? Isn't that technically, something special from the Custom Shop?

Its a mil-spec operator. Around 2003 2004 it was one of their normal products. Only for a couple years though. Hard as hell to find a holster, but its rare, shoots great, made in the us, and I love the way it looks. Plus its my hd piece with a light on it. I was lucky enough to find it on consignment at turners one day. It had less than 100 rounds through it. :)

So cool. That thing must shoot great, with all that extra weight up front. The Operator frame is steel, right? Not alloy?

Ya its all steel. and with a light on, there's even a tad more weight. Its as accurate as I am, shooting a ragged hole at 15 yds. I don't know if I'd ever get rid of it.

Here's my 1992 NM USA fit 1911, it is the pre-cursor to what is now called the mil-spec.

Nice!! I love the two tone.

That would be a, "standard" in two-tone. Note the location of the crossed cannons logo behind the ejection port. I'm not saying this for Freq's benefit, (he knows) but for the others.

Here's mine. Stock with the exception of the Hogue rubber grips. Love it the way it is and I don't plan on making any upgrades to it.

I notice that most people seem to be leaving them stock. I wonder why? I know I just feel like it doesn't need anything else for my purposes, its a great piece the way it is. OP if you get one, shoot it a lot and see if you even want to upgrade it. My hunch is that you wont

The only thing I want to make to my American made mil spec is to add an ambi safety. I've been meaning to do it for years now... -__-

Actually I didn't know this. The gun is old enough, that Springfield didn't know much except the date of manufacture, and the original MSRP.

Thanks for the info!
