I was looking at some range bags like the blackhawk comp shoot bag (http://www.blackhawk.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=3970&d=) and the enhanced pro shooters bag (http://www.blackhawk.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=1284&d=). Does anyone have these bags or have other range bags they'd recomend?

Depends on what you want. Want something purpose-built and fancy? Want "a bag" to hold all your crap?

I went the second route. Got a cheap MOLLE pack off CheaperThanDirt, works great. I like the backpack, since it keeps my hands free to carry my gun(s) or pay the rangemaster without having to set stuff down and pick it up again.

I went the cheap route too, Harbor frieght black canvas bags with side pockets. Really heavy duty and cheap. Come in two sizes

I went with a little more expensive snap on one http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=storage&item_ID=74428&group_ID=19729&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog works great and fits a lot of stuff, has a removeable sturdy velcro box, I throw my eye protection in

One disadvantage of having a regular range bag with a logo on it is that if it's in-view when you get pulled over, the officer has a right to inspect it the same as if it were a rifle case. Also, anyone one else seeing it may be tempted to break-in to your car.

bagmaster..the small regular ones are best. two regular sized ones are better than one of the real big ones for most outings.

With all the crap I bring to the range, I use a Ray-Vin cart.

http://www.ray-vin.com/carts/img/freelandwk.jpg

But even that doesn't hold everything I need for a regular range trip, just my match gear. I still bring a separate toolbox that contains all my cleaning supplies and basic tools. Ammo is transported in a military ammo can or cooler.

My dad just uses a plain carry bag from a sporting goods store. If I were just buying from scratch to carry gear in, I would get one of those wheeled luggage bags or briefcases like this:

http://www.luggageonline.com/images/luggage/GH/GH4529B_xlg.jpg

http://www.luggageonline.com/product.cfm?product_ID=2179

Great for pistol shooters since it can carry pretty much all you need: pistols in small cases, ammo in boxes, targets, staple gun, small toolkit (driver with bits, sight adjustment tool, armorer tools, etc), hearing protection, etc.

I-Shot Bag is great. Only problem is that it is too big and now I can't carry the thing because of all the crap I've put in it.

Greetings from the other coast:)

I have tried a lot of shooting bags over the years. I have to say the Shooters Connection (http://www.shootersconnection.com/) Bag is the best Christmas gift my wife ever gave me.

I bring my SKB gun case and a Jansport backpack to the range.

In the Jansport: ammo, mags, mat, gloves, ear muffs, glasses, targets, M-Pro7, Hoppes lube and rags.

I found a Craftsman toolbag at Sears that is perfect for a range bag. There's a zippered door on the side of the bag for a plastic container for holding small parts. I pulled the container out and can fit two pistols in zippered cases.

I like the pistol cases with the locks built into the zipper so each gun is in a "Locked case" according to CA law.

For ammo and other junk, I have another tool bag. The cool thing is these bags don't scream GUN. One bag was about 30 bucks and the other was 15 IIRC. If I need to carry more guns, I have another toolbag.

CED (Competitive Edge Dynamics) makes a great shooting bag, it's what I use. It's got plenty of pockets designed for the shooter, internal padding to maintain structural integrity, and is smaller than the Shooters Connection bag. Dillon Precision makes one that is almost identical to the CED.

I also have a 5.11 shooting bag and it works great. I can carry ammo, spent shells, clips, eyes and ears... all with a big strap with enough strength to carry it all.

It is a bit more expensive, around $70, but is a great addition to any shooting trip.

Another +1 for the 5.11 bag. Very beefy and reasonably priced, with the c&r discount from midway I think I paid about $60.

I have a cheapie walmart shooting bag.

Large center opening that will hold many pistols, large side pocket for hearing protection, another large side for ammo. One side pocket has an expandable net for brass or shotgun hulls. Comes with a folding mat with sheepskin lining to set your toys down on at the bench.

Small velcro closed pockets for mags and glasses, even a clear plastic credit card pouch for my range id, NRA card and HSC.

No markings or labels on the outside to ID it as a gun bag.

Under $20, used the savings to buy more ammo...

They had a sale on these for $30 back in December. Supposingly its very similar to the 5.11 bag

Regards,
I've used a bunch of different bags and my shooters connection bag is by far the best. It has pockets for everything and is very well built. I shoot USPSA Action Pistol and the bag is ideal for this. I haul all my stuff to the range in a single bag. There is a smaller bag inside the main bag that I use to carry my stuff from stage to stage.

Just got my i-shot mod bag

Gotta say its pretty damn nice, took 5 guns to the range with no problems. Sturdy walls and the side pocket fits my oakley glasses case perfectly.

I go to the range at least 4 times a week, ill see how long this bag lasts. Nice big metal external zippers that i can lock and metal hardware keeping the straps on.

Its about the size of a gym bag, maybe smaller.

2 internal side compartments running the length of the bag designed to hold guns. Comes with padded gun sleeves in each one. The inner bag has 2 more side pockets that you can shove more guns into or some shoot N see targets. Then two smaller pockets at the end that can fit whatever you want. I put 2 spare shooting glasses in one and a bottle of CLP in the other.

Also in the main compartment is my ultimate clip loader for my .22, 2 sets of ears, brick of 22, 2 50rd boxes of 45acp, shooting gloves and a hex key set.

Yes they are very similar if not the same. I posted this earlier, but Midway has their range bag (similar to the 5.11 and shooters connection) back in stock for $29.99.

To answer your question in a word. YES

I have owned many range bags and have tried out many others. My Shooter's Connection bag is the best I have ever seen.

Really dumb question here.
The 5.11 Range Ready bag advertises that of its 5 large exterior pockets, 2 are lockable.
Can somebody give me a clue as to how these 2 are any more 'lockable' than the other 3? All 5 exterior pockets have identical zippers etc.

I said it was a dumb question!

Maybe it wasn't quite so dumb a question.

I just contacted 5.11 Customer Support in Modesto and received the following 1 line reply:

They are not lockable. It was a misprint in the catalog.

I'll put in a recommendation for I-Shot.

I can comfortably carry 4-5 pistols, 9 magazines, eyes, ears, ammo, and all the other junk that goes in a range bag.

following up kinda late.

i got one of these for cheap at midway. in short the bag is the best for the money, there can't be something better for less than this.

bag comes with two padded zip up gun pouches (something i couldn't see from pics or description), all the pannels of the whole unit are foam lined. has a removable center carrier that people typically fill with ammo. there's an abundance of magazine slots although for the amount of guns you can carry in this, and my habbit of carrying 7 mags for each pistol, there's not enough but there's plenty of space for the loose mags in the mag pocket.

all the pockets are padded and there's room for multiple ears, i fit 4 sets of eyes in one pocket, i keep my hi viz targets and loads of other stuff in there too. there's a see through card holder so you don't ever forget your range card.

comes with a nice padded shoulder strap. fully loaded this bag is heavy and ungainly to maneuver around in, but for someone that needs a place for everything and everything in its place, this bag is unbeatable.

the bag is wonderful, if you don't have one, 40 bucks is such a great deal.

if you guys want pics i can post them up.
