A coworker of mine’s old dad died. Thus she inherited numerous rifles and a handgun.
What is the deal with the handgun? I have been trying to get a inherited/transfer/registration anything paperwork from local FFLs but they’re all thumbs. Don’t know what they’re doing…

What form do I need to keep her legal and safe and get that handgun registered? Can I download it from somewhere?
I care, mostly because I bet I want to buy it from her! ;)

I'm not sure if it is required for inherited firearms from father to daughter, but I believe this is the form:

http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/oplaw.pdf?PHPSESSID=a50cf52eb71a36fb829a59db62c90d 07

The rifles definately don't need any action on her part.

That's what I was just able to find after LOTS of searching... but this is the link I found (same PDF anyhow)

She definitely does need it for the handgun, yes.

Silly, but true, she does need to take and pass the handgun safety test to take possession of the handguns. You can take it at any gun shop for a small fee. Make sure she studies hard. ;)

Does anybody know if she can transfer the handgun if it longer be sold in this, so called, state? As you know, there are many used handguns on the market that wholesalers won't ship here.

yea, it should be treated like a P2P instate transfer (assuming pops was in CA too) so it does not apply to certified list. Just so happens on of the parties is not alive any longer =P

I just sent in the intra-familiar form (the link posted above)and $19 for a set of Derringers and a Hi-standard .22 revolver. I'm hoping to hear back from the DOJ at the end of this week. I'm pretty sure they aren't on the "approved list". I did get a HSC, and then took possession of the guns the day after obtaining the HSC, as I wrote on the form. I inherited these from my grandmother and mother. I'll let you know how it turns out....

I offer a course for 900 dollars where I teach you how to pass the HSC test.

Part One, I slap the student upside the head.
Part Two, I yell "stop being stupid."

Part Three, I get paid.

Well, today I got three letters from the DOJ, all identical except for the serial numbers that correspond to each handgun...

"This is to acknowledge that the Department of Justice has processed your request and has made and entry into the Automated Firearms System for the following firearm(s):"
Make, Model, S/N, etc.
"A firearms elegibility check has been completed confirming your eligibility to posess firearms...."
It goes on to say that if law enforcement is holding the firearms, I need to show them this letter. Nice to know they're trying to save tax dollars by only having one form for multiple uses...

I sent a photocopy of my HSC with the form, one $19 check, and it took just about a month.
