I have the opportunity to buy a Sig P228. The seller is open to trades, more particularly a trade for a Sig P220. Luckily I have two. :D

This is where the dilemma is. Both are German made Sigs. One is a W. German Sig (date code 1990) in the mid 100,000s serial range, the other is dated around 1995-1996 serial is around 270,000. Who do I part with???

Comes down to which has more sentimental value I suppose. If I remember correctly, your W German was before the updated frame for +p loads correct? Perhaps that version if plan only sing +p .45. otherwise, a flip of the coin or which has more intrinsic value to you I suppose… If you can purchase the p228 in cash for a really good price, perhaps go that route instead...

Hmmm. I would hate to be in your position. lol. Seriously tho, I think 1nsanity has a good point. I would care more about a gun that has a broader range (no pun) as far as ammo is concerned.

I don't plan on running +P ammo in my W. German Sig but I see your point. Anyone else with any input?

That is a good problem to have. I personally love my West German P220. It is a JH (1987)production gun so it is not technically in that improved to handle +p category but I put in a green recoil spring and run my own hot realoads(upper end of reloading recipies) and have not one problem with it. Keep the W German one...they aren't making anymore of them

Though choice. The SN270,000 with triple SN should be a W. German P220 with Kiel proof marks and with which has improved hammer rebound system plus beefed up frame. I would keep that one.

Do check carefully frame rails on the 228 was excessive wear.

Keep the one that has the least amount of slide waggle, I'm going to guess that = the W German one.

+1 to just buying the gun. I'd have a hard time trading either of those Sigs.

Sell them all and get a Glock.

I already got a G19 and G36. don't want to part with either of those. Probably just going to buy the darn thing.

I'll be sure to check the 228 frame. Whoever owned it last though looks like they took great care of it.
