Took my brand new m&p 40c to the range last Sunday. Shot 100 rounds of federal champion, no FTF's or FTE's, pretty much flawless operation except couple times when the slide was locked backed(after i shot full mag) and i was putting another full mag, as soon as i slapped another one in the slide went forward by itself chambering the round. Not sure if it is normal when the gun is new( none of my other guns did that to me ). So trying to see what is your opinion on that, should i call S&W and talk to them about it? I also had really bad groupings, but that is i guess mostly user error, since that is my first time shooting 40 caliber and in compact frame.:(

It happens sometimes to the M&Ps. A feature or a problem depending on your viewpoint. I hate it but I've learned to deal with it. It doesn't really get in the way anymore but it's annoying.

Do a search on the M&P forums, it's been discussed to death.

Completely normal for a M&P to close after inserting the magazine with vigor.

They all do it. So do other handguns.

As other have mention, this is normal.
It is also mentioned in the manual.

A lot of polymer guns do this.

I also have the same gun. It's a snappy little thing, so you have to really focus on a smooth trigger pull. Your groupings should also improve as the trigger smooths out from regular use.

it's normal.... im used to it. but you can put your thumb (it's ambi slide lock anyway) on the lock while putting a new mag to prevent battery.
