BATF appears to be monitoring pre-gun (so called 80% crap) sales on Ebay and is stirring the pot. They're also looking at AK/RPK receiver flat mfgrs - some may be shipping near-receivers w/o FFLs being involved.
Even if you're clean but your shipper screws up you can be in a world of hurt.
Esp if the transaction was monitored before you could call the ATF and complain about getting a full receiver instead of a flat in the mail.
Walk carefully, esp given the 'prior art' of KT Ordnance, etc.

ATF, FBI, DOJ, IRS, whomever.... many government agencies pay attention to what happens on ebay and have, even before ebay stopped facilitating firearms sales. Always beware of frauds, unscrupulous sellers and illegal transactions on ebay.

AFAIK, the eBay nazi has banned the sale of 80% receivers long long ago.

Well, I guess they missed at least one. Hope the person comes out OK.

Heh, I had SDPD out at my neighbor's place with four cruisers yesterday, and I know the little old lady living there couldn't have been running anything that'd require four cruisers. The cruiser parked near my place took off once I pulled up. The tinfoil hatter in me wonders if they were trying to set up listening devices... oh well, my stuff's all legit anyway.

Yes, I would remind everyone that one man's 80% may be the ATF's 90%.
Therein lay the rub.

There's a word for people who think everyone's out to get them.... perceptive.

Well the question that is in my head in relation to 80% receivers is:
who came up with the idea that 80% was legal.
Bill
Have you been able to find anything in the BATF website or anything in title 1 firearms that talks about 80% ? being legal or what basis is this 80% based on?

No. I think that was a number that might've been used as a guidepost in discussions w/some ATF folks. It really has no legal weight. One man's 80% is ATF's 90% or (for someone without good tools, etc) someone elses 50%.
Unless a particular hunk of metal were approved as a non-receiver, it's sketchy.
Buying a flat of metal or a pipe w/some reference marks is gonna be OK. Once it's bent and has a rail or two and just needs a few more holes & rivets, that's damned close to an AK receiver.

Ebay is hillarious :p !!! They think they're taking some kind of moral high ground by not allowing firearms sales. Interesting position comming from what is without question the world's hottest online market for stolen goods. I doubt more than 25% of stuff on e-bay is legit.

Keep in mind that ATF doesn't even recognize 80%-- or any percent! That's just an industry term for a "near receiver but not a receiver."
I'll see if I can dig up the letter where ATF stated this.

But where else can you get a half-eaten piece of toast with the image of the virgin Mary on it or an air guitar? :p

So what is going on? You buy an 80% receiver and then the ATF shows up at your door wanting to inspect it?

Um, they may not have to inspect it if they were the ones that sent it to you :)
