"The federal Conservatives have confirmed that the contentious long-gun registry will be scrapped this fall. Speaking with Postmedia News, Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner said: "Everyone knows it's been part of our party's policy for many years, and the Prime Minister committed to Canadians during the election we would scrap the longgun registry.. Canadians can expect to see [the legislation] fairly early on in the fall."

This should be forwarded to Governor Brown so he will see that registering long guns is a failure.

Canadian Gov't was warned it would never work and cost billions...so they learned the hard way.

And we are about to do the same thing. What is the definition of insanity again?

Not really. Only shouted down / voted out / outnumbered.

Nothing was learned. It didn't cost the people who instituted this a single Canadian penny. (It cost the Canadian taxpayer plenty, though).

I wonder what will happen to long gun sales in Canada. The greatest legacy this failed policy might have is that it reminded Canadians that they USED to have a real right to arms and the next generation will more dearly treasure and exercise that right.

I am not perfectly sure, but I think the long gun registry in Canada required registration of already owned guns...........not the idea here where every transaction to come would be logged with a serial number.

If I am not wrong, what are you guys talking about?

I am right. Demanded registration of already possessed long guns.

Thanks.

Great news for our neighbors to the north, but will the government destroy existing records of long guns???

We should forward this every Anti in this state.

Ah, but we forget the Ca. Gov. believes it can succeed where others have failed. Beside its not about effective 'public safety' it's about increasing the burden and cost for the law abiding and driving them into the deserts of NV & AZ.

Register liberals, not guns . . . .. they cause more damage.

I hope this comes to fruition. I have lived in Canada and I love the country. I have a lot of family there. It is time for this farce to end, along with the rest of the ill-concieved gun control they have.
I have not set foot on Canadian soil since 1989. Not entirely because of the gun control there, but it is part of the reason.

Yeah but with the budget issues maybe this will be one more nail in the coffin.

Good article. The article still points to the USA though, as source of their illegal guns and true or not the antis will pick up on that, and it doesn't really touch the self defense issue. They always bring up duck hunters and sport only.

I still think of many fun guns for hunting and sport...accurized ar's for varmits, 3 gun, idpa, ipsa, etc. Some of the most popular shooting sports use these "evil" guns so we just need to let people know that.

"But the criminals who kill people with guns generally are using illegal handguns smuggled in from the United States - not legally registered rifles and shotguns."

Let's hope Obama and the ATF doesn't try another "emergency" regulation, this time for the northern border states.

You could say that about many of the current government initiatives, and the state AND federal level.

I imagine that he's been doing that since shortly after starting middle school...it has little to do with the Canadian gun registry.

IIRC & FWIW, that 'definition' was just Einstein insulting his contemporary physicists.

Not really, irs just that the conservative party finally won a majority government and could actually DO something for a change. Canada gets a lot of minority governments where essentially nothing gets done legislatively, this time was different.

Liberals actually have nothing to do with liberty. Libertarians want liberty. Liberals just want liberal (excessive) laws, they want liberal (excessive) control. They do not want liberal (excessive) freedom

The majority of social and economic problems we face today are mostly the direct result of liberals and their social engineering. After thousands of years as a species and hundreds as a society, we know what works. Which is another way of saying we know what doesnt work.
