What rivet tool can i use on my ak? I went to home depot and i wasnt too convinced about the one they had. Does anyone know of any, or have one for sale?

If youre doing a rivet build, you need to modify a pair of bolt cutters to squish the rivets. Theres a guy on AKfiles.com who sells real nice ones.

EDIT: heres the link http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10897

I bought a pair and they work great on the front trunnion rivets. For the rear trunnion and triggerguard rivets you will need to make some jigs as shown here (http://gunsgutsandgod.com/SBS%20tutorial.htm)

If you have (or don't mind buying) a press, I'd recommend going with the jigs from www.ak-builder.com. They make for some nice rifles - the ones that've been through my tooling have this habit of getting sold on here and elsewhere for around the $550 range... :p

Get a cheap set (or two) of bolt cutters to modify from harbor freight for 10 bucks.

I have a pair of modified cutters, but I don't know if I want to build another in the future

They are a pain in the *** to make. I used a grinding wheel and just had at it for over an hour. Be sure to wear a good respirator unless you want some black lungs.

I would recommend 24" bolt cutters. I got some 36" ones and they are rather cumbersome to use.

I would recommend 24" bolt cutters. I got some 36" ones and they are rather cumbersome to use.

Procedure I used to use, back before I upgraded to a jig, was:

Sit on one arm of the bolt cutters.

Hold receiver in place with both hands, with elbow positioned over the other arm.

Exert body weight downwards while holding the receiver in place.

Never had a problem...

You might need to grind down the rivets depending on which ones you get prior to install.

If you got questions just pm me.
