I am having issues with nickel brass for the .40 accepting primers. Like 1 in 5 is not allowing the primers in and crushing them.

military type rounds sometimes have primer crimps. the primer pockets may need to be swagged, although im not aware of any nickel plated military rounds.

What kind of primers are you using and also what kind of press. Make sure that the primer cup that transfers the primers from tube to shell plate is clean if you are using a dillon 550. Even a small piece of walnut hull can cause the primer to sit lopsided and not press into primer pocket properly.
