Dude I really want one of these too! I think a fixed mag would be better (kind of like Gene has...this isn't so different then the ar mag release)

The Daewoo DR200 is the semi auto version of the Daewoo K2 (military select fire rifle). This is the South Korean's military rifle of choice. All males aged 18 must spend 2 years (I think) in the Korean military and they use this rifle.

does having a semi-auto version mean their people enjoy their own rkba, or is it made for export?

No, it's not photoshopped. It's a real stock. Maybe kinda tumorish, but quite comfortable to use. I've never been fond of butthole stocks, and I actually like this one better. It's a hand made composite stock, but the finish is now a little crappy as I've been using it for tests and molds. I'll refinish it and post some better photos in the next few days.

The DR-200 is a gas pistoned, AR/AK hybrid in .223, and uses AR mags. The upper pivots on the front pivot pin. The mag button/catch is different from an AR, and the fixed mag version I did works like a charm. Also, no buffer tube to worry about. Fun to shoot, too.

I don't think so. They sold their auto division to GM, though. The Chevy Aveo is a Daewoo.

Auto division was separate, though. Kinda like Saab Auto (also bought by GM) and Saab Aero.. thankfully. You don't wanna fly on something with the kind of QC and bad designs you find on Saab Auto.

my korean friends refuse to buy daewoo because of its quality.... so uhhh any reviews on this rifle? will it be able to stand up to the northern korean commie hordes and their evil AKs?

I used to have two of these before 2000. Sold both of them because I couldn't find a steady source of parts. Since I like to shoot my guns alot I wanted to have some spares incase I break something. Ended up selling them to get more ARs.

They were great rifles though. I loved shooting it.

Yeah, but WHICH Daewoo? That company makes everything from toasters to earth movers.

I know a lot of Koreans dislike Daewoo Auto because of the GM takeover. The workers pretty much rioted when they found out they were gonna start working for the General.

I want to know where you got that stock from. I would rather use pre-ban ar mags then pin a magazine onto that rifle. I remember looking at the list and it listed the K1 and K2 (military versions) but not the DR-200 or DR-300.

The gun is WONDERFUL but the lovely import bans have caused some huge issues with the availability of spare parts. Every now and again someone does a run of something they need for their own gun (ie "Broke the %$#@! firing pin- might as well make 100 of 'em, keep 5, and sell the rest...").

I'd love to have one, but my $$$ priorities don't allow for it at this time.

Daewoo is a chaebol, a conglomerate. They build everything and I mean everything. Much like LG which produces electronics, household products, and toothpaste (which I'm quite fond of), Daewoo makes firearms, cars, televisions, etc.

It is the perfect marriage of the AR lower and the AK gas system it shoots 223 and takes colt mags. It breaks apart but not exactly like an AR. You have to pull the front pin and then release the rear tab to disassemble. One of the most accurate rifles to shoot.

Looks like this.
(this one is not mine)

Too late to take pics.

I was thinking if you found a seller who would disassemble one with the thumb-hole stock, not the folding stock, and send the stock to you and the rest of the rifle to an FLL we should be good. Then just fill the stock in like what mach did on his ak. I have heard that the recoil is much greater then the AR-15.

The Daewoo DR-200 (.223) and DR-300 (7.62 x 39) are off-list.

The following Daewoo rifles are listed (obviously off-limits):
K-1
K-2
Max1
Max2
AR100
AR110C

Always get a photo of the receiver and double check that it's not a listed variety. Sellers can make mistakes, and that's a problem you definitely want to avoid.

Sure, if you have a seller that will partially disassemble a DR-200/300, you're okay. The lower receiver is the serialized part that must go to an FFL. The rest can go directly to you. DR-200/300 uppers came from the factory with a fake (undrilled) flash suppressor, but some have had real ones installed. It's still okay to get a barreled upper with a real FS shipped to you, but you'd have to remove the FS if you want to go with detachable mags and a filled thumbhole. Obviously, only reassemble it in a CA-legal configuration.

Here are some more in depth pictures of a registered Daewoo.

Notice the similarities to an AR lower?

It would not take much to do a prince 50 type fix to the mag.

Daewoo doesn't make cars anymore, though... well, not as Daewoo. GM owns that part now. I don't think GM owns the rest, though.

The Daewoo DR200 is the semi auto version of the Daewoo K2 (military select fire rifle).

K1 and K2's were also produced in semi-only for the US market. K1's were direct impingement and K2's are gas piston systems. The DR-200 was the answer to the assault weapon import ban.

I never liked the funky looking DR200, and the mock up above looks like butt.

The original K1 and K2s were decent, but I was never inspired to buy one.

I might be wrong about this, but didn't they stopped importing the Daewoo rifles about 10 years ago and they didn't sell well when they were available? I recall seeing ads in Shotgun News for the rifles in the range of $450.

I had a DR200 in the late 90's
During the end of 1999 when everyone was buying AR's, I sold it to fund a couple more AR's.

I paid $200 for the DR200 brand new at the Federal Ordinance storefront inventory auction.
I sold it for $850 a couple years (and a couple thousand rounds) later. :D

With the current gas piston fad, I sorta wish I had kept it.
