I am thinking about picking one of these shortly but I do have a couple of questions that hopefully someone may be able to help with.

I am concerned that using the buffer tube for a cheek weld may not provide consistent sighting. I was thinking about adapting a car-15 cheek piece to mount on the buffer tube to provide a more stable platform for my melon to rest on.

Has anyone tried this?

Do you think that it would effect the potential legality of the U-15?

The Car 15 cheek piece is the one that I am thinking about using.

You likely can not use that with the U-15. That would create a thumbhole behind the receiver if you connect the buffer tube to the U-15.

So if I can attach the cheek piece to the buffer tube without connecting the upper and lower portion of the stock, I should be fine?

That is correct.

Having handled one of these, cheek weld is not a problem. In fact, I would think that device would screw up your cheek weld.
