Hello fellow calgunner.
I'm seeking direction or advice on how I should build my AR-10.
It is a DPMS type, so I'm a little limited on parts.
I'm wanting to build a 18" or 20" barrel setup and I know I want to use an adjustable type stock(PRS maybe)?

What do you guys think?
All I have for componets are:

SI defense matching billet upper and lower
Lower parts group with Bullet button
Larue LT158 low mount with a Nightforce 5-22x56 MLR2 and Jpoint mini optic.

I'm not going to try and match the receiver for my accessories, all black parts is what I plan on using.

Can you guys that own a DPMS style AR-10 post pictures with your build componets?

Thanks guys!!

Is that larue mount going to be high enough once you get a forend on that thing? I have a 56mm objective trijicon in mark 4 super high mounts and it just clears! It isnt an ar10 setup but here it is. 6.8spc

^That's sick, how do you like the millet? I have heard so many mixed reviews I was thinking maybe I would just save for the vortex or monarch.

Right now I got a buckmaster on my .308 It works well but would like a wider FOV at higher mag. I could then move the buck over to a different rifle or sell it.

I haven't had any problems with the Millett holding it's zero. It's a great scope for the money. I like it so much, I'm thinking about putting one on top of my Remington 700 PSS.

My current set up. At 14.5lbs, it is a hand full. The weight really keeps the rifle steady while unloading 308s, and the Miculek brake works like a charm. You can't go wrong with a DPMS 1:10" 308win barrel on a Stoner variant platform. My Army buddy is regretting his NM M1A purchase after shooting this rifle.

Your receiver set up looks really good. I'm digging the colors. Please share after it's all finish. I had a Magpul PRS stock. But ended up selling it. I am pretty much the only one shooting this rifle so the extended pull and cheek piece was never used.

DPMS 24" 1:10" twist 416 bull barrel cut down to 20.5" from Randall at AR15barrels.com.
DPMS BCG,
DPMS Miculek brake, gas system, palm grip, 308 parts kit, and A2 stock assembly,
Troy BUIS and MRF308 rails,
ARMS 35 QD scope ring and base,
Leupold VX-3 tactical scope 3.5-10X40mm,
PRI gas buster charging handle,
CMMG MK8 lower,
JD Machine G3 mod upper,
Knights bi-pod adapter and Harris 9-13" bi-pod.

Yeah man, I had a Millett TRS-2 10X50mm on this monster. It is one of the best bang for bucks scope in the market. It has return zero from 600 yards adjustments back to 0 at 100. Good choice in scope. Unfortunately, I replaced it with my old Leupold so therefore my Millett TRS-2 is in the market place :)

First of all NO YOU ARE NOT LIMITED ON PARTS! there a plenty of DPMS pattern companies out there, Fulton Armory and POF are just the first two that came to mind. This is my DPMS pattern .308 AR that I have since sold.

I'm about to walk out the door so I'll make it short. Tactical machining lower, DPMS upper, Troy 13.8 handguard, blackhole weaponry 18 inch barrel, stock LPK for now with JP springs, DPMS chrome BCG, Colt A2 stock, and receiver extension, Troy BUIS, not pictured is the HEAVY rings, and Bushnell elite 3200 10x. I'm sure theres more.

FA lower, DPMS upper, Ace stock, Wolff springs, and a Trij 3x9. Love this rifle. Will replace the grip at some point. 1/2 moa on a good day with 168'rs.

While were on about LR's, I can't stand my Knights or DPMS mags. I only use pmags these days.

I have built many and am the owner of way too many.
With the 56mm objective and a that mount you might have clearance issues. For barrels, the DPMS barrels are all capable of sub moa groups. The hot ticket is the 18" SASS fluted barrel, available at JSE $195. You can use the expensive SASS gas block or a less expensive .936 low pro block (call DPMS others work too). Just make sure it fits under whatever tube or rall you choose. I hunt with some of mine and like the DPMS composite tube ($80) or the slotted aluminum tube (looks cool with the fluted barrel $60). Remember to get a mid length gas tube and pin too. For bolt and carrier, the DPMS one is good to go. I have many 1000s of rds with several of them and never had a problem. Spend the extra $30 and get the chromed one, it just looks better and is easier to clean.
Spend the bucks and get the proper action block and 308 wrench. If you only use it once, put it on the parts board and you will get most of your $$ back.
For stocks, remember the 308 recoils considerably more than a 5.56. Get a stock that locks tight and will stay that way. I have had too many CTR & ACS stocks wear loose and rattle. They still function, but I hate a stock that rattles. Magpuls 308 PRS tends to fair much better. I have spent tons on many stocks and always end back with the A2 rifle stock. Not cool looking, but solid and dependable. Don't forget the proper 308 spring and buffer. The 308 buffers are shorter, to clear the longer carrier.
In the long run you have to ask yourself are you going to really use it or just have it sit and look tacticool. Shop smart, JSE has the lowest prices I have found on the barrels, rails, tubes, bolt/carrier and tools. For the spring & buffer Brownells or Midway. The stocks can be had many places or just use one you have from a 5.56 AR (just change the spring and buffer). For rails, I don't know what will line up properly with your upper. My experience is with DPMS, POF and CMMG uppers and lowers. The DPMS rails are solid and line up well with their uppers. The DD rail lines up with some, but not always. I don't know of any others.

Stick with the A2 unless you are going for looks. I have a PRS on mine and I honestly could have been just at home with the A2...

Ill tell ya what though. I'm changing the A2 on my .308 an ACS just as soon as I get some money. The A2+.308=cheese grater. After 50 or 60 rounds I look like I've been shooting slugs out of my 12ga for an hour. The magpul enhanced pad thingy looks like the way to go.

Here is my build thus far.
I got in a bunch of parts today from jse supply(great customer service)

I went with a DPMS SASS barrel
Chrome bolt
Magpul PRS stock
Larue mount with a mk4 3.5-10 M3 with 308win turrets instead of the Nightforce
Ergo grip

All that is left to do is a new trigger, muzzle device and handguard.. The handguard is giving me trouble on which one I want to use..

Here are the pictures.

The most bang for the buck is the DPMS slotted free float tube ($60 at JSE). That way you can see the flutes on the barrel. The tubes are rifle length and cover the DPMS mini gas block you have. The option I like is the fiber composite tube ($80 also JSE). Which ever you buy, invest in the DPMS 308 barrel nut wrench. Its a good sturdy product ($40 several places).

If you are thinking about the carbon fiber one and want to see a photo, let me know. I can snap a photo of mine.

DPMS SASS barrel is in 416 stainless... LMT MWS Mil Spec (British Contract) barrel is 410 stainless... Throat erosion in a semi-auto rifle in 308 caliber in 416 stainless is a major factor after 3000 - 4000 rounds... Armlite AR-10 or LMT MWS chrome-lined barrels are good for 20,000 + rounds. In terms of accuracy, chrome-lined barrels gives about 0.25 MOA wider groups on average. 416 Stainless barrel can be lapped to a smooth internal bore finish and are used for bench-rest bolt action rifles, with the understanding that these barrels will be replaced every 4000 rounds. Benchrest gunsmith don't like chrome-lined barrels for obvious reasons. That's why FN SPR and SAKO TRG bolt platforms are excellent because they sport an accuraized chrome-lined barrel, good for 20,000+ rounds. LMT MWS platform allows barrel switch without a gunsmith. DPMS SASS barrels are not hand-lapped at the factory (although the version DPMS submitted to US Army for the M110 contract trial was), and should be lapped if possible by a competent gunsmith. For a AR semi-auto platform, with an average accuracy of 1.5 MOA with match grade ammo, chrome-lining won't even be noticeable... my 2 cent.

Thanks for that info. I seriously doubt that I will shoot the barrel out.
It's good to know though. If I had known this, I would have spent the extra coin on a better barrel..

I went ahead and bought a Daniel Defense lite 7.62 12.0 handguard.
Should have it tomorrow or by Monday...
Now I need to decide on a muzzle device. I'm thinking a surefire break so I can run detachable mags(Kydex grip wrap is going to be made to make it featureless)

I would rather start with a complete rifle and customize it to what I want; selling/trading
parts, and if you shop around there are great deals out there. Here is a 98% condition
AP-4 I picked up at a pawn shop for $700 out the door.

Actually I like it just the way it is.
