View Full Version : Talk me out of a 590a1

Unless I can think of something better I'm going purchase the Mossy. This will be for HD and the range. I'm not really into skeet but I have a friend that wants to shoot it with me so I might do that on e in awhile but I don't really care. I will add a light and I like the high capacity of the A1 as well as the aesthetics and utilitarian design of the Mossberg line in general. So is there anything else I should consider under $800 or so?

Remington 870, larger capacity version goes on sale about every third week at Big 5. $399 or less, I think.

Sorry cant do that.:D

I'm a Mossberg fan all the way. Shooting LH the controls are all in the best position, especialy the tang mounted safety. The 590 is rugged and robust, I've used mine for several Combat shotgun classes and have no hiccups with it.

Picking mine up tomorrow. And you can get one at Buds for about half of that $800.

I have a 590A1 and a few 870's, I like them all. Choosing between Mossberg and Remington is mostly personal preference, yet it is hard to go wrong with a 590A1. I would say go for it.

For the 590A1, it is one workhorse -- it has metal (aluminum?) trigger guard and safety swtich, and a heavy barrel. Mine has 8+1 shots capacity as well. I put a Hogue 12" LOP stock on it, and I like it very much.

Got a 590a1 as well, only negative I can think of is weight. Heavy wall barrel and loaded with 00 buck or Slugs + side saddle. After I took an all day class, doing simple port loads/select loads was wearing me down. The remingtons I was handling were lighter, not night and day, but you can defnitely feel the difference.

for 800 you might as well consider a saiga 12

No need to talk you out of it. :)

Great choice with going with the A1. Great all around gun for HD as well as range work.

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm specifically looking at the Adjustable Tactical Tri Rail model. They don't seem to be in stock anywhere but I thought that they're a new model, are they not even out yet or were they a limited run?

I'd consider the Saiga but with the reliability issues on stock models I'm a little scared off. Same goes for the KelTec.

Nope. Wish I had one, instead of my 500. There a L-O-N-G range replacement plan.

Of course, I also have a Tactical M1 Super90 as backup, too...
