i was thinking of buying a 870 police magnum and later buying a longer barrel for skeet. i read the police models are more hefty but tend to be tighter than the express. what would be worn after they trade in or what do you guys recommend to check or replace?

I would replace the spring and follower. Check the crown of the muzzle since these guns have probably been though some tough situations.

I'd make sure the ejector and shell stops are in decent shape, just because they're a bit harder to repair/replace than the other parts of an 870. Firing pins and their springs are one of the few weak points of the 870, but are easy (and cheap) to replace.

Not long ago a good friend bought a THRASHED 870 police mag at a show in Utah for 160 bucks. After a trip to Wilson for their "Remington Steal" rebuild and a park job, that thing is better than new.
