So I'm looking to build a lightweight AR and thinking about using one of the ACE ARUL stocks. Not sure if I should go with the full length ARUL or shorter ARUL-E. On my other ARs I'm using 6 position stocks and I like to leave them about half way extended.

Please help me find decide which ARUL is the most similar to my current setup.

ARUL: 9.75" with 12.8" Length of Pull
ARUL-E: 7.125" overall with ?? Length of pull

I just got the longer ultra lite stock. It is better than I expected but, It didn't come with the required gusset for installation on my AR.

Since you say you use your collapsible stock half way in, go with the shorter one.

Buy this and review it for me, lol. I hate stocks, whenever I think I know what I want I find something else.

My vote goes to the full length. But then again that's because the entry stock is too short for my long arms.

Having tried them all from Ace, the ARFX-E is worlds stronger, damn near just as light ( That thin tube it adds over the AR-UL-E , weighs almost nothing ) ...and if you throw on the 1" thick recoil pad ( Just click recoil pad options on the page, price doesnt change between 1/2" or 1" option ) it makes it a truely usable length of pull.

Should I be worried that the ARUL or ARUL-E won't be strong enough since it lacks the supporting tube?

I don't think so. ACE makes quality rifle stocks. All the stocks I've come into contact with of theirs have with held quite a beating, and still function fine. :cool2:

I have both, I like the short one better unless shooting from a bench, then I like the long one better. If its too short you could get the thicker pad to put on it or even custom make a filler piece to make it the size you want. I thought these might be flimsy, but they don't feel that way at all. I don't see myself using it to break down a door and you'd probably break your receiver with any AR butt-stock by trying it anyway. Butt-stroking is for wooden rifles

I have built featureless rifles with both...I prefer the longer one for all around use, I'm 6'0", but if i were shorter, then entry would be fine

I build a rifle with 14.5" bbl + battle comp 1.5 and UL-E stock + 0.5" butpad, clocks in at 30.75" about as short as you will get with a legal AR15

Mako stuff is crap. I bought a folding vertical grip, and also a glock stock (I'm from AZ) and the quality on both are equal or less to airsoft. Vertical grip feels like it's gunna bend and snap off (has tons of play when open) and the stock is cheap as hell and doesn't even fit correct. Uses cheap plastic too

Defiantly lost money on that purchase and learned a lesson

Agreed. I'm not a fan of Mako stuff either. I bought some stuff for my Mossberg and returned it.

Both of the ultralights come with the gusset, if you didn't get one, tell the retailer and get one.

In terms of strength, it should be almost as strong as the Skeleton, it's extra little tube can't add much strength.

I prefer the longer length with the thin pad. It uses a rifle buffer which I prefer to the carbine buffer the entry version uses.

On the other hand, if you buy the entry version, a rifle buffer tube, rifle buffer and rifle buffer spring, you can try both setups and keep the one you like.

Don't worry, ACE makes a very solid product. My full size ARUL is very sturdy. As long as you don't plan on buttstroking zombies on a regular basis it should hold up just fine for whatever you dish out.

I had the same dilemma as you when selecting my stock. I run collapsible stock on the third setting, so I was afraid entry length would be too short and rifle length too long. I went with the full size just because I like the thought that the larger rifle buffer/spring would make my rifle softer shooting (it did). For me, the full size stock minus the rubber butt pad it almost the perfect length. I snug it up in my should and my nose is just barely behind the CH.

So, that's my experience with them. Take from it what you will.

Thanks for all your insight guys. I think I am going to go with the full length stock. It seems that the short E versions are about the same length as a fully collapsed CTR/MOE stock which is a bit too short for me.

I am now looking at either the ARUL or the ARFX with the 0.5" pad.

I run an ACE ARUL "full length" on my 5lbs-er AR. I can also hear the buffer spring goes "bo-ing" everytime I shoot it :D It bother me in the beginning but not anymore.
