Here's my Supermag project as of today. Knoxx Specops stock, 18 3/4" VR barrel. This whole project was centered on the awesome 3.5" 18-pellet 00Buck load. It certainly is an awesome stopper either on man or beast. Next move may be a extended mag. It will need a different fore end too. I think no optics on this one. Simple is better. Even with the Knoxx recoil reducing stock, it still packs a punch.

Ain't shotties cool? Well, I know, all guns are cool, but shotguns are so versatile, available, legal, and effective that ya gotta love 'em. I think my next project will be a super slug gun.

What's your camera model and what sort of settings did you use? The photo looks a little washed out. I don't think resolution is your problem, I think it's going to be the lighting and the camera settings.

It came to me as a messy pile of rust. After checking gun values ($95 in perfect condition), I decided to attempt a restore. Six hours of stripping and cold bluing, this is the result. It's one of the first gunsmithing projects I attempted, and I'm still proud of the results. Some day, I may even sandblast and parkerize it.

LOL, yeah it's cali legal, seems how it's a pump, not a semiauto.
I only have the 6 round mags, but maybe someday I can find the 10 round drum for cheap. That's really why I bought the kit for my Mossberg

They were made by Knoxx Industries I think in 2004, but they stop selling them because the manufacture couldn't keep quality up with the demand at a reasonable price. Now whenever you see someone selling the kit it's marked way up. Heck my 6 round Mags were about $90 a peice... You should see what people sell the 10 rounders for...LOL... But it was just too plain cool for me to pass up....

You can sometimes find them on Ebay or Gunbroker as long as you're willing to spend more for parts then you did for the shotgun...LOL.. like me...

:D Not exactly. It isn't a price tag, just a tag with my name on it and the serial number. I took that picture just as soon as I got home from picking it up.

Don't plan on sending that one back after the dance. :D

Just got this last week. It's my first shotgun, Benelli SuperNova 12Ga with an 18" barrel. I added a TacStar magazine tube extension so now it has a 7+1 capacity. I couldn't go any longer then a two round extension because it would stick out further then the barrel itself. I still need to get a six shell side saddle and I'm debating on whether I want to add a telestock or not. Unlike the Nova, the SuperNova can have the buttstock replaced.

I know the sling in not mounted in the correct location in the front, But the proper tab is junk. And besides it is more comfortable this way. Yes it is legal "just" and kicks like a mule. The flashlight does work but the batteries flatten out after several rounds then becoming not working so well.

Here is my baby, its a Valtro PM5 12ga. It is my home defense weapon, a real pleasure to fire. It has a 7+1 capacity with removable magazine. 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells will work. Completely legal in Ca, just very hard to come by. I am still in search of a 10 round magazine if anyone knows where to get one they are out there but are the holy grail for Valtro owners. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c305/offrdmania/valtro.jpg

03-24-2008, 12:22 PM
I have two Valtro R05 (the PM5 is actually the folding stock version) and two Sidewinders. The sidewinders are excellently made, but the Valtros do hold the edge - unsurprising since they are 100% Italian made, finely crafted guns from the same shop that produced Valtro 1911s that today fetch between $1500 and $3000 per gun.

The only problem is that magazines, are extremely hard to come by. At SHOT I spoke to a gentleman who makes magazines. I wanted him to make a batch of 200 R05 magazines. Unfortunately, he told me that it wouldn't be worth it unless he made 100,000!!

Similar (to a lesser degree) can be said of the Sidewinder magazines.

R05 magazines - expect to pay about $90 used, $135 new. In three years of watching Gunbroker and AA studiously I have NEVER seen a magazine up for sale.

Sidewinder magazines - expect to pay about $60 used, $100 new. The drums (which are not that great, and seriously detract from the manueverability of the gun) are betwen $200 - $600 when they were still available on eBay.

I have never seen a 10rnd R05 magazine, period.

Can the Mesa side-shell carrier with Picatinny rail be used with those Vang sights?

I'm considering buying a Vang 870 but also want a short rail piece for a micro red-dot...

Thanks and sorry from digressing from the pic thread topic. I can post separately as well in the main forum.

I got a mossy 500 mariner and have been wanting to put better sights on it, It looks pretty easy to add the rail, just screw it in right?? -I'm thinking either an EO tech sight or a ghost ring and larger front sight. Also a Knoxx collapsable stock....I might even go crazy and get a flashlight! any opinions would be appreciated.

do all of that.

I think you'll find that once you mount a rail, and then optics on top of that, it will be uncomfortably high.

I'm still looking for a flashlight mount that snuggles in between the barrel and magazine.

so what is your recommendation for shotgun sights? I prefer tritium sights but I don't see any at cabelas, cheaper than dirt or bass pro, only fiber optic....which is okay if you want a plastic sight....i guess

-the knoxx stock is still a must for me...I have a hard time with 3'' 00 buckshot after the first round and have heard great things about the stocks.
-flashlight would also be good....I like to see what I'm shooting before I shoot.

Yeah I ended up ordering a heat shield with built in sights attached to the heat shield, will see how that works. Not sure if the rear sight is too far forward, anyone ever use this type---- Also is the JB Weld strong enough to hold the mossberg type front sight I like the idea of doing it myself but im worried about how much heat is on the barrel. Finally got around to modify my Charles Daily I got back in Feb. Added an old pistol grip laying around by modifying a remmington spacer and buying a bolt to fit the grip. Almost looks stock except the spacer is slightly off color. Also added an old heat shield. Haven't fired it yet but I like the small size compared to my 7 shot Mossberg 500. Waiting on a few parts for that one to change it up a bit, will post pics on that one in a few weeks. Just bought this shotgun because it was on sale and very cheap , just for a quick grabber, nice and light.

Ok I got a question, does anyone have a remmington 870 or 1100. I have a charles daly that im trying to make into a small first grab weapon. Im looking at a website that has a 4 shell 12 gauge holder. Now I have a mossberg 500 with a 6 shell holder and saw one of the mounting holes dont line up. I had to modifiy a remmington pistol grip spacer slightly to work on the charles daly so im wondering if a remmington is closer to what I need. I dont have a remmington to look at for the measurements but looking at my shotty I could probably replace both pins and install bolts to the 4 shell holder like the mossbeg type uses. Here is a pic of my pin layout, hoping the remmington is the same. My pins measure1-7/8 center to center. Also here is the website selling the shell holder. I dont mind modifying the holder but dont want to modify the gun. I did notice the mossberg shell holder rear pin does line up with the charles daly, but not the front one.

I found another website showing the same pic for 3 types of shotguns, now im confused to which one is in the photo.. Here is the google site showing all types . http://www.google.com/products?q=tac+star+side+saddle+4+shot&btnG=Search+Products&show=dd&scoring=p . We don't have enough FN SLP pics here so I thought I'd share mine. I've added fiber optics sights (green rear and red front), a tacstar sidesaddle, and a modified Speedfeed IV-s 870 stock. Stock requires some minor dremel work to fit but works extremely well once it fits.

I love shooting this gun! :cool2:

I just got the same shield/ghost ring. I really like the ghost rings seem to work good for me but the looks and finish of the shield is horrible. They dont list the shield as being a very rough texture and the side profile of the shield is undesirable to me. And after tightening the piss out of the shield it still walked 4 inches to the end of my shell tube. Took it off used my old shield and mounted the sights on it , the old one is different metal and I can clamp it down very tight and the metal wont fold around the barrel because it seems to be a different gauge. I am ordering mossberg sights and heatshield because there shield has some type of brace to keep it in place, and the sights because I thought the ATI ones were actually metal but are plastic.

Have this listed on the Curio & Relic forum, but had to add here too for our shotgun friends:

My brother had a 185 Mossberg, no stock; had a Mosin Nagant M-44 stock, no hand guard, cracked - it just had to happen. the Mossberg darn near dropped in to the stock with very little Dremmel work. Turned the head of the screw down that holds the Mossberg together so it fit perfect into the front hole of the Mosin mag. Then tig welded a 'new' rear tang on the back of the Mossberg receiver so could use the rear mosin screw into the now fake mag. the Mossberg does rest up against the Mosin crossbolt in the stock. the barrel bands were not modified at all. Of course removed the old box mag. guide from the Mossberg.

My ghost ring sights finally came in, called a local smith and they wanted $180 to weld it on, Sorry way to much. Im trying the jb weld, hopefully will shoot it this weekend to see if it holds, used a level laser line tool to align everything. I left the brass front bead on so im hoping the glue will also bond to that helping to keep it all bonded to the barrel, packed the sight full of jb weld and carefully cleaned the outside of the sight for a very clean install, but after an hour the excess glue can pick off with a finger nail. Also got the mossberg heatshield with the plastic rod to keep it from sliding down the barrel. Got the remmington 4 shell holder for the charles daly shotugn, just had to tap new holes in the holder to line up with the pins on the gun, and installed a light on it also. The sight pic is not highlighted the front post is very bright orange looks good inside and outside. Unless something goes wrong I think im done except for maybe a knoxx stock in the future and maybe a houge fore end on the mossberg.

Actually made it to the range today, put about 20 00 buck and 20 birdshot through both shotguns, the mossberg jb welded sight held, no sign of it coming loose even inspected it very closly, heatshield didnt budge and new metal light mount didnt move either. Very happy. The charles daly heatshield moved and plastic light mount moved, going to change both. Tried my hand a blueing on the dlay shotgun after scratching the barrel, very easy to use. It was tetra liquid blueing. I finally understand how it works, its a chemical that somehow tarnishes the barrel smells awful but a few coats and looks just like new. Now my shoulder will ache for a few days.

I also got the same one and lock, I guess you got the big 5 special 11 day wait like I had in feb. One thing it shoots a very nice round pattern, my mossberg does a sideways S shape compared to the daly.

It was light, and I heard some good things about it before hand, that's what prompted me to buy it.. The price wasn't bad either..

One negative I found is good luck finding useful aftermarket stuff for it... Most things seem to be tailored to the 870 and Mossberg 500s.

justinlemieux,

Do you have any clearance issues with the Sage stock and the pic rail? I have the older KAC rail that is held on with a barrel mount, but like the receiver mount version better.

And how did you get that grip on the Sage? Is this a new version?

Wilson Combat - Scattergun Technologies™ +2 magazine tube.

I'm thinking of adding some sights other than the bead.....maybe some ghost rigs or a florescent tube.

Yeah big time, but I just macined the inside of the rails and reinforced them. It worked well.

nice. envious. this is exactly what I am looking at building next, complete with the AI gear, but using a Remington 870 Express 18.5" as my base HD build. goal is to make a tactical setup like my custom AR build.

Looks like you did ATI: Tactical Forend, Top Folding Stock, Heatshield, Shotshell Holder.. pretty much what I had planned to do. glad I saw your build first, helps me visualize.

Ok. Here I am in action with one of my 2 original Winchester 1897's. I believe this one was manufactured in 1914.
