no contest, garand for sure.
hell, outside of ammo costs, Id personally take a rack grade over a mini.

maybe the OP is confusing the M14 with a mini14. so the thread should read "would you rather take an M14 or an M1 Garand" , maybe?

i would take the M14

and if he does mean mini 14...of course i would take the garand

NorCalK9.com
06-26-2011, 8:21 PM
Id take the m14 and if he meant mini14 id take that as well only due to ammo costs and lighter in weight.

A brand new Mini-14 or a Collectors grade M1 Garand?

So, what level of Collector's grade we talking about? A low serial number sniper with all correct parts that have never been issued or used or...?

That is BIG $$$ right there. If you have that kind of money why not buy both? And an AR15, AK, Custom Bolt Action, etc.

Why is murky water and 100 year old wine being compared?

darkest2000
06-26-2011, 9:21 PM
no brand new Mini 14 will ever match the value, desirability and collect-ability of an M1 Garand so this is no brainer. Plus the older Mini14s look much better anyway, besides as soon as you "fire" the Mini14 it looses it's "brand new" status.

Now if you're looking for a shooter, the Mini14 would be cheaper and easier to feed.

M1 Garand for the win. Even if you meant an M14, those are still being made, so I could buy one later if I wanted.

Mini-14 only because I would feel bad shooting a collectors grade M1. Could buy the mini-14 and use the cost difference between the two and put it towards a garand you wouldn't feel bad about shooting a lot and end up with both :43:

If ammo was the same cost, the Garand all the way. I bought an AR over a Garand because I could afford to shoot more than two boxes at a time. But I still want a Garand in the worst way.

are you going to use a wrench you bought at the dollar tree to work on your 69' cuda or are you going to use a snap-on? i dont care what condition the rifle is in im going to go for the one thats going to get the job done every time. M1 GARAND

Keep your lame '57 Chevy! Now if it was a '55 we would be talking! LOL

OP, "rather have" part of your question really depends on many things. As I stand now....Garand! Though I would shoot it!

This question needs to be answered, if it is indeed a low serial number never issued with all the bells and whistles why would you want to considerably lower the value by putting some rounds down range?

Is this a serious question? It's like asking, would you rather have a 1965 Mustang, or a Nissan Sentra?

If you're just looking for a plinker, then the Mini isn't that bad, it's a nice rifle in it's own right. But comparison to one of the top classic rifles of all time is just - well, it's like comparing Peter the Great with Leonid Brezhnev.
