Forget the deal. Find a place you can fondle and inspect numerous WASRs. Last thing you want is to order one have no clue what you are going to get. Trust me I know...Last thing you want is a very poorly made WASR...Though the recent builds coming from CAI have been awesome to say the least.

For the haters...Today my WASR decked out went up against an AR at 200yrds (group body shots) at SLOSA...2 Range Masters observerd....I won with groups less than 2 MOA at 200yrds. Twice...

Open friendly challenge to the WASR / tacticool AK haters:rolleyes:....60 rounds of ammo and lunch.

Good luck...You are in NorCal...Show or some of the 925 or 209 shops might have a few. If you were down here a couple of places have multiple WASRs to choose from and I would be more than happy to help you.

I have a WASR and a nice AR, with the iron sights I am hitting bowling pins no prob at 150-200 yards on the WASR.

I love them both and would take either into battle.

Yep, my wasr is awsome. I got to inspect the whole thing befor purchase though which is recommended. I dunno where the CA deals are since I got mine in AZ from J&G for 409$ + tax (came with boyonet, bayonet holder, mag pouch, and 1 30rnder) Kinda sucks shops charge over 150$ in CA and dont toss in the extra stuff it comes with from century and all they are doing is adding a BB and blocking the mag to 10rnds which there cost to do that is practically nothing. Making a profit is the main part of being in the game.

Ok I'll check a few places. I'm not looking for a high quality ak I have my arsenal sas for that. I need something I can throw around and not worry about. I wouldn't buy online. Most shops in my area want 599 for it. Way over priced.

Check out Henderson Defense. You can get a certified WASR so you don't have canted sights or gas block.

you can always get the single stack WASR at Turners, save yourself a hundred bucks and turn it into a doublestack on your own. Took me about 45 minutes and a dremel. Also took 3 minutes to put a slanted muzzle break on it.

Best $350 I have spent.

Agreed, Turners recently had some deals on the single stack WASRs.

OP, be aware that once you convert that single stack to a double, you also have to make sure you then replace foreign parts with US parts to be 922r compliant.

very true, lucky mine had most of the US parts already there, so adding the tapco front muzzle slant put me at the required number 9 parts. Most of them include the tapco trigger group already and then my tapco magazine... good to go.

Here are pics of my WASRs. The 1972 is decked out...The other is stock with stock I refinished...Both are excellent shooters. I have decided to keep the 1970 stock and get another AK...Either a Yugo is I can find one or another WASR dated 1969 (Yes I search for dates for a reason). If you can find a few to fondle and check out thoroughly you should do fine.

I got my first WASR years ago for $350...In 2010 I got my 1972 for $529...Two months ago I got my 1970 at Turners (double stack) for $499...Helps to have a buddy and I spend over $4k in guns...Buy in volume for discounts if you can.

Well you know I have to ask why.... but why pick them older the 70? Mine is 1985 and reminds me of the movie Wolverines.

Older = Better parts manufacturing process...I had a 80 and the parts on it were rough and not as sharp as the 70 and 72 I have now. Take your 1985 and compare to an older one...Noticeable differences if you look closely enough.

That is debatable but I will stick by my guns...So far it has not let me down. ;)

Henderson Defense does a great job on inspecting their WASR's and are CA-Friendly.

Yeah that is why it is key to look at and handle as many as you can at a store...The builds will vary but if you know what to look for you can get awesome ones like I did. Just buying the rifle someone hands you is not smart shopping. If you pay you SHOULD play.
