View Full Version : AR15 build so far. Whats next?

So far, we've got here
Spikes ST15 Lower receiver
LAR OPS-4 Side charging Upper receiver
LAR OPS-4 complete bolt carrier group
Daniel Defense internal parts kit
ACE SOCOM buttstock
This was all I was planning to do this summer before returning to school, but since so many of my friends are buying or building rifles and I reasoned I can always make more money later but never more time, why not finish building it this summer and have some fun?
What else do I need? For sure I want a 16"barrel, BUIS by Troy or MI, low profile rail that will be flush will my existing upper receiver rail, and it will be DI.
Going to Riflegear Saturday (friend is picking up his complete Daniel Defense M4) so might pick up a few more parts
Nice build so far. I'd probably replace the stock grip with an Ergo or Magpul grip. Maybe get a nice sling, Magpul XTM or ladder rail covers once you get your barrel and FF rail. And if you're really feeling like you want to throw more money, add a nice red dot system or scope (e.g., AimPoint, Eotech, Trijicon or Leupold, etc.). Maybe get a nice Tango Down vertical forward grip or a Magpul AFG. Definitely wouldn't hurt to buy more mags and ammo.

Tight I didn't know they made side charging ARs.

That side charging upper is awesome! I might have to get one. Mind asking how much it was?

Do you like the cheek weld (or lack of) on that SOCOM stock?

I'm looking at a 16"inch barrel and DD Omega rail, hopefully it fits well with the existing hardware.
Speaking of barrels, I'm probably only going to get to shoot this thing a couple times per year when I come back from school for break, any thing to know in deciding between a 1:7 vs 1:9 twist barrel?
Any difference between the Troy and MI BUIS? I can't tell from the pictures online.
I'll get a red dot down the line, probably a Burris FF2, any comments on that setup for an AR?
@Damiaaan. I got the forged ambidextrous LAR OPS-4 from one of our vendors here, Element Arms. Same day shipping too. It was 299 plus shipping for the forged upper. Billet upper costs 399.
@mission. I drank the kool-aid and got the socom based mostly on looks but I love the weight and how there is barely any rattle compared to other stocks. I'll have to comment later on the check weld once I finally shoot it but seems fine for now :)

Some small fun trick stuff..
-Battle Arms Ambi safety selector
-Check out the Stark SE1 grip or I also like CAA UPG16 + say a Phase 5 winter trigger guard.. but either way, the stock grip must go

If you want a really nice barrel go with a Black Hole Weaponry. Their barrels are stainless steel 1:8 twist. They are accurate and reasonably priced.
