I'm in the buying stage of my pistol build, and I've come across and potential hurdle. I know that threaded barrels for pistols are not legal in here in good old California. But if I buy any ar15 barrel...it seems that they are all threaded. If I purchase a barrel and pin a muzzle break to it, that would make it a permanent attachement right? Would it have to be welded on?

Please keep in mind, I have to purchased anything, yet. I'm just being wary. Or paranoid.

Legal on a ar pistol because of the mag lock

P.s. no need to pin or weld anything

Yep, bullet button takes care of that. Also needed since the mag is outside the pistol grip. So you find any good deals on pistol barrels? I'm looking for one too.

www.midwayusa.com has Noveske 7.5" barrels (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=356568) for a good price

Threaded barrels are perfectly legal on pistols in CA.

However, they are considered an SB-23 "evil feature" to determine AW status on semi-automatic pistols that have the capacity to accept detachable magazines.

AR pistols are normally AW's in CA because of:
1.) Threaded barrel
2.) Barrel shroud
3.) Magazine outside of the pistol grip

So you have three issues to deal with, and since nothing can be done about #3, you put a bullet button on the AR to turn it into a fixed-magazine pistol which negates SB-23 features.

But legally you can put a threaded barrel on any non semi-auto pistol in CA without any other modifications.
