Is there any good gunsmiths in the Central valley area(located in Merced).

I have a Remington 870 12ga with a 20" barrel that I want cut down to 18", recrown, and reinstall the front bead sight.

Anywhere local? Dont really want to have to ship it far. Thanks

It'd probably be cheaper to just buy an 18" barrel for it. Look at Ebay, I think they usually have tons of them.

Pipe cutter + hacksaw + file + drill/tap... shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to cut it down, 5-10 mins to dress the cut and 5-10 minutes to tape the hole.

Its very fast/easy.

Guy named Charlie Grainger...he's in Atwater I believe. Top notch smith. Does a lot of work for USPSA 3-gunners.
