What's the LA Times talking about when they say the gun used to shoot Giffords in AZ may have been sold under the program? It is mentioned but not explained.

Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told congressional investigators that there was "a state of panic" that the guns used in the shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in January and two U.S. agents in Mexico a month later might have been sold under the U.S. surveillance operation.

Yeah, I had a head tilt on that too... It's the first time I've ever heard of such a mention.

I HIGHLY doubt it, but wouldn't that be something if these documents were found to have had knowledge of something in Laughner's past that would have made him prohibited, but they allowed the sale to continue anyhow after the instant NICS check?

Seems like something they'd want to DEFINITELY hide... but again, that would be extremely extraordinary...who really knows until congress knows.....

The ATF needs to redefine themselves as supporters of the 2nd amendment, and work to fight states, cities that illegally restrict gun ownership. That would keep them busy for awhile. Why do we have an agency that actively seeks to restrict something the constitution says we can have? Do we have an agency that is trying to bring slavery back?

In a letter Monday to Issa, ranking House oversight committee member Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) said that pursuing the probe now broke with past committee policy of standing down until criminal prosecutions are complete. "We're all for conducting a responsible investigation to out any wrongdoing," said Ashley Etienne, Democratic committee spokeswoman. "But we can't do it at the expense of bringing these guys to justice."

ugh....what about bringing the real criminals to justice, as in the ones who abused their power and allowed this whole thing to happen? Issa's investigation IS a criminal investigation.

Hahaha I love how in Feinstein and Schumers Bill to force long gun reporting, and close teh "gun show loophole" they talk about Fast and Furious as being a good crime reduction effort carried out by ATF. The ATF wrote to
feinstein saying this is only the guns submitted for tracing. They don't say "there could be hundreds of thousands seized a year, but only 20,000 were submitted for tracing and of those 10,000 were from the US" so then Feinstein just leaves that part out.

Just completed the opening testimonies by ATF whistle blowers Special Agents Olindo James Casa, Peter Forcelli, and John Dodson about what they were told to do and not do while observing straw-buyers when they were rasing their concerns... it's intense.

Issa now asking questions to Brian Terry's mother how she was informed about his death.. she said she wasn't told much, and she learned more about Brian's death from the media.

This is SO big....how disgraceful that the lamestream media wouldn't acknowledge this whole thing on national headlines.

More questions by Issa going on...

And make no mistake, the ATF whistle blowers are ripping the higher up for allowing them to ignore the straw-buyers. So far, the hearing is WAY on the side of the "good" agents.

Even [D] Cumings is agreeing with Grassley's opening statements that this is NOT reason for "Political" opinion.

What I gathered from it was that this such a cluster f**k, they were worried that some of the guns they slip away would end up as ones being used in these high profile shootings.
They must have been crapping 30 weight oil worrying about that.

I think I read that Laughner (spelling?) bought his magazines from J&G which I believe is one of the retailers who ATF told to complete straw sales.

If the ATF somehow convinced J&G to sell 33 round magazines to him, the damage done by gunwalker will not be limited to cartel violence, they will have to answer for a preventable US grown tragedy.

G60
06-15-2011, 4:01 PM
I think there's a very low to zero possibility the ATF was monitoring parts & accessories sales. (in terms of loughner's magazines)

kcbrown
06-15-2011, 4:37 PM
The bottom line is that in this operation, the ATF was knowingly aiding and abetting known criminals. There is only one crime that properly fits that description: treason.

And treason is punishable by the death penalty, which is something I believe those who approved this operation should be subject to, and something the agency itself should be subject to (meaning: the ATF needs to be entirely and permanently shut down as a result of this). Sorry, but I don't believe there's any other proper way to deal with this.

SoCal Bob

The only info I found was that Loughner bought his Glock at a Sportman's Warehouse in Tucson. I would hate to see J&G Sales be brought into this when it looks like the only connection they had was to give interviews for the media.

ATF would not have had anything to with Loughner buying a magazine because they are perfectly legal to buy in Arizona and not regulated.
