Remember the good ol' days when 90% of guns seized in Mexico came from the U.S.? Now it's only 70%...

More than 70% of 29,284 firearms submitted to the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for tracing by the Mexican government during 2009 and 2010 originated in the United States, according to the report.

The report, released Monday, is the latest element in a debate over how large a role the United States plays in arming the ruthless Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for more than 34,000 killings since 2006.

Must be "new math"...

I'm guessing that 90% figure will be left out of the report in the main stream media. There have been a couple of threads on this today; I think?

70% is a lie too.

Notice they don't mention the total number of guns confiscated, just the number submitted for testing. If 100,000 guns were confiscated that means only about one of 3 was submitted for tracing and of the total number of guns involved about 80% did not come from the US.

Its not a lie its a deceptive statement. iirc many guns outside of the US are not able to be traced so the ones that can be traced are traced to us. Now I wonder how many of these traced guns can be traced back to the US gov

The BBC web site is carrying the same story....no surprise in 'disarmed' United Kingdom.

"A US Congressional report suggests some 70% of firearms recovered from Mexican crime scenes.................."

and of that "70%"..... 65% came from the ATF and 5% from the private sector through parking lot sales or thefts IMO

MOST of these arms (in addition to the ATF scandal) that are being bought by the drug cartels in this "70%" were sold (again) by the US .gov to central America during the 80's. They are accounting ANY weapon MADE in the US as "from the US". These are weapons that have been over there for decades.

These "70%" (false facts) of weapons are STILL ones that were supplied by the Government.
The lament anti's reading this thinks its from US gun stores and Big 5.

I wonder how many have ATFE agent's fingerprints on them.

I wonder how many have ATFE agent's fingerprints on them.

NONE They have been thoroughly cleaned. But honest research via serial number will undoubtedly tell a different and chilling story. Probably the reason BATFE has been quoted as being in "panic mode' as hearings approach.

^^ This!

Every time I go to Mexico, I see troops with American made M-16s and/or M1 Carbines. Where did those come from? The United States.

How did they get there? Our Government sold them to the Mexican government.

How did the cartels get them? By stealing them, picking them up after attacks and/or buying them from corrupt public officials...

This ain't rocket surgery. :D;)

It used to be 90% of the traceable guns were traceable to the US but only 20% were traceable. However they didn't didn't mention how many of that 90% were traceable to the US Govnt and how many are traceable to other sales, private, gun shops, straw purchasers etc. :rolleyes:I wonder how many of that 90% are traceble to the government, the ATF boondoggle vs other gun sals, shows, straw purchasers etc.

I think "of the 70% of the guns confiscated that were ID'd as from the US, 90% were provided to the cartels by the BATFE" would probably be more acurate.
